'It's like family':Swedish housing experiment designed to cure loneliness 21/09/2020

This is a really interesting article about a co-living development in Sweden. Residents, made up of 50% senior citizens, with a number of refugees recently arrived in Sweden, must commit to spending at least two hours socialising with their neighbours in return for lower rents.
The result? A happy, connected community where people are looking out for each other. Prejudices broken down. Friendships formed. And many celebrations had!
Would you like to live somewhere like this?

'It's like family':Swedish housing experiment designed to cure loneliness A radical new scheme offers homes to different ages and backgrounds – and insists that they (safely) mingle

This week we've been doing our design guides for our micro-apartments. It's so exciting to see how little we really need to live large. More space doesn't equate to more happiness, and beyond a certain point, neither does
more stuff.
In our designs, we're valuing light, flexible spaces and a biophilic feel instead of 'bigger is better'.
What do you think you could live without? What do you think is essential? What makes you happy?

As we spend more time inside, and we have less contact with our physical surroundings and community, many of us are feeling less connected to our place. When we stay inside, and we're not in the physical presence of others, we could almost be anywhere in the world?
How are you feeling about that? Is the lack of physical connection having an impact on your mental health? When this is all over, do you think you'll find your physical surrounds more or less meaningful?

We're really excited to announce that we're just about to begin work on a great boutique affordable housing project!
One of the things that we believe in is that key workers, and workers in crucial but often lower-paid jobs (like retail, hospitality and service work) should be able to live close to their place of employment.
This project is going to deliver six affordable homes, all within an easy easy walk of a major employment and leisure centre. We've partnered with an amazing impact investment team to do this work, and we're really keen to demonstrate how a true, triple-bottom-line project can work!

Great to see Alice taking to the stage today to speak about investing in real estate with purpose. We're raising capital for our current projects, all with a triple bottom line. Micro-apartments, co-living and sustainable building are key in these projects, and we'll reveal more over the coming days...

Rescue plants for a rescue house! With the rain that's finally come, we've been able to salvage these beautiful plants from being demolished on a construction site. We've rushed to put them into an upcycled house's garden ahead of the rain the the coming days so that they can flourish again for many years to come!

The messy reality of tiny homes 03/02/2020

How do you feel about Tiny Homes? This interesting ABC article shows a lot of different viewpoints on Tiny Homes. In the 'yes' corner are the people living in Tiny Homes as a cheaper alternative to traditional homes, with fewer possessions, smaller bills, and the freedom to move.
In the 'no' corner are those who say that you don't own the land, so the tiny home is not secure (and it's hard to move, and it often needs to be connected to electricity, sewer and water). Also, it's often in a legal grey area where Tiny Home occupants aren't sure if they are living legally or not.

So what do we think?

We think that Australia has a massive housing affordability problem, and a lot of that has to do with the massive size of our houses. We think that we need a lot of different solutions working together, and not just one. There is no one solution that will fix everything, and so we support a combination of alternatives, including the Tiny Home.

From a sustainability point of view, living in smaller spaces with less possessions is a lot better for the planet than most alternatives. Also, Tiny Homes can be built to feel spacious and beautiful, in a way that many caravans, which are designed to be mobile more often, are not.

No, the Tiny Homes solution won't solve the crisis entirely, but it does move us in the right direction. We support Tiny Homes as a legitimate housing option.

Do you?

The messy reality of tiny homes They look beautiful online, seem to offer a way to escape the mortgage trap and to downsize your possessions, but how simple is real life in a tiny house?
