Yoga with Parvati
My medium strength yoga classes restore energy flow, resulting in a healthier body, mind and spirit
The Vagus Nerve is the longest nerve in our bodies. From the brain stem through the neck, thorax down to the abdomen it is a key part of the parasympathetic nervous system. It influences your breathing, digestive function and heart rate. To keep the vagus nerve functioning well, there are many practices you could follow- Deep slow breathing, aim for 6 breaths per minute. Singing, humming, chanting, gargling (it is connected to the vocal chords) Foot massage. An exercise called ‘The Peacemaker’. To do this- Place each middle finger in the hollow behind each ear, bring heels of the palms together, place fingers on your neck, place tip of your tongue onto roof of your mouth, breathe in deeply and exhale with a loud aaahhh sound.
Why we move to the left side last, when practicing asanas.
It is important for the internal body that we do move from the right side of the body to the left and not vice versa when practicing asanas.
This is because energy moves from the Liver, which is on the right side of the rib cage …… to the Spleen which is in the upper left region of the abdomen and under the diaphragm.
Also from the right side of the Intestines across to the left.
So, If we move from the right side of the body to the left, we move with that flow of energy.
For example, when practicing a sitting Twist, we should twist to the right first, back to centre front and then to the left side last.
We often blame sore muscles for the discomfort we feel after sitting for too long. But the real pain comes from Fascia. This delicate connective tissue weaves through our whole body, wrapping around muscles, cushioning joints and Eve supporting nerves. Without regular movement, fascia can harden and tighten losing the fluidity it needs to help us move with ease. With intentional stretching, gentle movement and hydration we can help it regain its natural glide. With gentle yogic movements, circulation improves, joints feel more supported. Every small step can invite healing. Renewal is possible- a regular, gentle yoga practice will heal your fascia.

Hi everyone, Just a reminder that our monthly Silver Bowls and Chanting Evening will be held next Tuesday 13th May.
This especially beautiful evening, hosted by Jacqui and myself is held at the M.I.Progress Hall on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, from 5pm to 6pm. We ask for a $5 entry fee to pay for the hall.
Studies have found that chanting can decrease stress and anxiety. The sound vibrations of the singing bowls create balance in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies.
We begin with a relaxation followed by chanting and then finish the evening with 20 minutes of singing bowls played by Jacqui and myself. If you don’t feel comfortable chanting, please feel free to just soak up the beneficial vibrations of the chant.
You can either sit in the chair provided or lie on a mat. We have a limited number of mats, cushions and bolsters so if you can please bring your own. Now that the weather is cooling down please bring a blanket.
Our chant this month will be Om Namah Shivaya by Steve Gold. The words to this chant will be on the sign in table for you to take.
