Trust me, I know how much courage it can take to even book that first appointment and I never want that to be the thing that stands between you and the smile you deserve.

I am actually a nervous patient myself. I know that might surprise you but I genuinely do not love being in the dental chair and I cannot always put my finger on exactly why. Which means when you sit down in mine, I truly understand how you feel 💗

During Dental Health Week (3-9 August 2026) this year, the theme is focusing on the oral health of young Australians aged 18-25 through the ‘MY SMILE’ campaign.

This stage of life is full of change, with young Aussies taking on the responsibility of moving out, studying or starting a job, learning to budget and taking care of their own health.

Something has to give, and it’s usually their oral health which means that many young adults put off going to the dentist until something is seriously wrong.

Gen Z also gets health information differently from older generations, often turning to the internet or influencers ahead of qualified professionals. That’s why this year’s campaign, along with giving young people reliable information and good early-care habits, is stressing the importance of seeing a dentist before small issues turn into big problems.

Over the next week will be information that this age bracket might find helpful like :-protecting your teeth during sport, considering cosmetic dental treatment, or experiencing wisdom tooth pain!!

Let’s clear something up... sensitivity during teeth whitening # damage

Whitening works by opening tiny tunnels (called tubules) inside your teeth so stains can lift and your smile can brighten.
When those tubules open, some people feel a little zingy, icy, or sensitive feeling - and that’s usually temporary + totally normal.

With safe products, proper timing, and good technique, whitening should NOT permanently damage your teeth. At SDS we use sensitivity-supporting ingredients (like potassium nitrate ) and different strength whitening gels to decrease this outcome!
