One of the biggest misconceptions about touch is that it's only meant to create pleasure.
Sometimes touch creates pleasure.
Sometimes it creates discomfort.
And both can be completely normal.
I've worked with many women who struggle to relax into touch, intimacy, or s*xuality. They often wonder, "What's wrong with me?"
Usually, nothing is wrong.
The body simply remembers.
Touch can awaken emotions, memories, protective responses, and nervous system patterns that have been stored for a long time.
Your muscles may tighten.
Your breathing may become shallow.
You may feel like pulling away.
Or emotions may suddenly arise that seem unrelated to the moment.
Rather than judging those reactions, become curious about them.
Your body is communicating.
Instead of asking, "How do I make this feeling disappear?"
Try asking,
"What is my body trying to tell me?"
This is why I often encourage people to begin with slow, gentle, non-erotic touch.
No pressure.
No expectation.
No goal except to notice.
Notice your breathing.
Notice where your body softens or tightens.
Notice what emotions arise.
Allow yourself to stay with those feelings for a moment instead of immediately pushing them away.
Over time, as your nervous system learns that touch can be safe, those protective responses often begin to soften.
For some people, intimacy and s*x are deeply regulating experiences.
For others, they can initially bring up anxiety, fear, or vulnerability.
Neither response means there is something wrong with you.
It simply means your nervous system has its own history.
Healing isn't forcing yourself to enjoy touch.
It's creating enough safety that your body can gradually learn a new experience.

Tallow balm has become one of my favourite things to create.
