Did you know most of the sigle use items we use daily contain hidden plastic?

Here a list of the most common :

- PAPER CARDBOARD & COFFEE CUPS.
Most of the take away paper containers and cups we use to take home our meals and drinks. TIP : keep a foldable cup and container in your bag to use anytime.

- TEA AND OTHER INFUSE DRINK BAGS.
Most of the teabags are only around 70% biodegradable. The remaining 30% is made from heat-resistant polypropylene that helps hold the tea in the bag. TIP : look for loose tea, or 100% compostable bags.

- FOIL PACKAGING AND SNAK BAGS.
Foil packets, such as the kind used for crisp packets, are not made of metal foil, but metallised plastic film. This makes them unsuitable for normal kerbside recycling, as the thin foil can cause jams in the recycling machinery. TIP : Minimise the use, and look for recyclable package.

- GLITTER :
Most glitter is made from etched aluminium bonded to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) they are classed as a form of microplastic.
They are dangerous and they are found in many collateral items, such as clothes, kids stationary, make up.
TIP : Natural and environmentally friendly glitter exists! So try to look for it ( i.e. natural minerals such as Mica powder)

- PADS, NAPPIES, WIPES :
Single use and disposable pads, tampons, nappies and wipes are often made by weaving together cotton and polyester. This make them more resistant, but not fully biodegradable, polluting the ocean and landfill.
TIPS : Reusable is always the way to go!  However, a great first step is switching to fully compostable items. As per flushable wipes, simply avoid the flushing part regardless the biodegradability.
