Pakistan’s U-15 football team is set to begin its campaign at the FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026 in Azerbaijan after FIFA confirmed the tournament schedule. Pakistan has been placed in Group AD alongside Gambia, South Sudan, Cyprus, Jordan, and Nigeria, with the young Green Shirts scheduled to play five qualification-stage matches over just three days.

Pakistan will open its campaign against Gambia on October 24 at 3:30 p.m. The team will then face South Sudan at 1:45 p.m. and Cyprus at 8:30 p.m. on October 25, before playing Jordan at 12:30 p.m. and Nigeria at 7:15 p.m. on October 26.

The tournament will feature players born in 2011 or 2012, with more than 3,000 young players, coaches, and officials expected to participate. The competition will be played across two stages, with teams first competing in qualification groups before being placed into one of six performance tiers based on their results.

Unlike a traditional knockout competition, every participating team will remain involved until the final matchday. Each side will receive another four to five matches in the tournament stage, giving young players an extended opportunity to compete at the international level.

The qualification stage will run from October 24 to 26, followed by a rest day on October 27. The tournament stage will take place from October 28 to 30, with the tier finals and closing ceremony scheduled for October 30.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has introduced a new Cricket Development Excellence Award worth USD 200,000, recognising the franchise that has made significant contributions to cricket development, player growth and the wider PSL ecosystem. The 2026 award will evaluate development work carried out by the league’s first six franchises from the third edition through PSL 11.

The assessment will focus on several areas, including the identification and development of emerging talent, player impact, high-performance infrastructure, grassroots cricket, domestic engagement, player welfare and education. Franchises will first assess their own development work before submitting their findings and supporting evidence to a five-member assessment committee formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The committee’s assessment will account for 80% of the final score, while fans will contribute the remaining 20% through voting after franchises present their cricket development work on official PSL social media platforms. The award aims to recognise work that contributes to the long-term development of players and cricket beyond the PSL itself.

The PSL says the award will also consider initiatives such as coaching clinics, school and club cricket programmes, men's and women's cricket development, financial literacy, education support, media training, anti-doping and anti-corruption education, as well as career transition planning for players.

Further details about the assessment committee and fan voting schedule will be announced by the PCB in due course. Following the conclusion of PSL 11, the award assessment will focus only on development work carried out between the two most recent editions.

Axel Witsel has ended his Belgium career after 140 international appearances across 18 years.

The experienced midfielder made his senior debut in 2008 and became a central figure in Belgium’s golden generation. He played at four World Cups and helped the country claim third place in 2018.

His final appearance came during Belgium’s 2-1 quarter-final defeat to eventual champions Spain at the 2026 World Cup. Witsel retires with 12 goals and the second-highest appearance total in Belgium’s history.

Pakistan has asked for its 2026 Men’s Asian Champions Trophy matches to be moved from India to a neutral venue.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation formally requested that the Asian Hockey Federation relocate the tournament or stage all Pakistan fixtures outside India. It cited the sensitive bilateral situation and the need for a safe and dignified environment for players and officials.

PHF president Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani said the request should not be treated as a withdrawal. Pakistan remains committed to the competition and is prepared to face India and every other FIH member at a neutral venue.

The tournament is scheduled for October 27 to November 5 in Jalandhar and Mohali. Pakistan and India are currently due to meet on November 1. Hockey India has rejected the relocation proposal, but the AHF has not publicly announced a final decision.
