One of my fondest memories of my Nan was walking our bush block as a kid during the Spring.

We would head off down the back of the 14acre bush block, finding a good walking stick along the way to see if the wildflowers had arrived yet. I don’t know whether there were really ones called egg and bacon, but that’s what my Nan called them. With the end of her bush walking stick she would point out the violets, and would become the most excited if we happened to spot a wild orchid.

I probably complained about these meanderings as a kid, as she probably didn’t know at the time that the simple act of Spring bush walks with me would become a core memory. (As well as bush fishing where we would find long bendy stick and see how many ‘leaf fish’ we could catch)

When I spot these flowers now on my walks I love this connection with my Nan. Knowing she would be smiling down as I pause to marvel at their gorgeous colours and beauty, like these ones I spotted yesterday and got to show my son.

Sometimes the small simple acts make the most memorable impact.

I’ve been there…left the massage booking to the last minute, my body is falling apart and my back is already in spasms.
Finally sat down to meditate when I’m so dysregulated that the stillness feels uncomfortable.
Had someone tell me I need to go for a run because I’m getting irritable.

So many of us practice reactive self-care, and I see its consequences daily - in injuries that could have been prevented, surgeries that may have never been needed, mental health that has suffered. And yes, I’m still a culprit of it too 🙋‍♀️(hello year long hip pain that I could possibly have avoided)

So what does proactive self-care look like for me now?
- regular massage bookings in advance regardless of how I’m feeling, or if my body is ‘sore’.
- prioritising and scheduling movement and weight training for longevity and strength in the decades to come.
- meditation when life is good, that will support me when the curve balls come.
- taking time to be still and check in with my body.
- reminding myself that rest is as productive as action, and not letting myself believe I have to earn it!

There are so many ways you can support your future self, I’d love to know your favourites!

Let’s make proactive self-care the norm, and not feel guilt or shame about prioritising our own wellbeing 🫶

A new client just selected this beautiful add-on to her massage session, but I just realised I actually haven’t told anyone about it 🤭

You know that moment when a massage finishes… you’re in the liminal space between blissed out and the present moment, your body soft and relaxed, but not yet ready to return to the outside world. Where you wish you could just lie there a while longer, cosy and content?

Well now you can 🥰

Introducing my new Guided Integration Meditation option.

When booking any massage session, you can now extend your time with a 20min guided meditation to support deeper integration, allowing your body and nervous system to fully absorb the benefits of your massage before returning to your day.
These sessions will also incorporate a card pull, offering further insight, reflection, or an intention to carry with you.

I’m so looking forward to weaving my massage and meditation practices together in this way, creating an even deeper layer of pause and connection on the table.

This is the first of a few add-ons that will be available soon…

What else would you love to see on the State Of Ananda extras menu?
