Understanding skin cancer is crucial for early detection and treatment. Let's explore it!

Types of Skin Cancer:

🦠 Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): The most common type of skin cancer, typically caused by prolonged exposure to UV radiation from the sun. It often appears as a pearly or waxy bump on the skin. BCC rarely spreads to other parts of the body.

🦠 Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC): Usually develops on areas of the skin exposed to the sun. It appears as a firm, red nodule or a flat sore that won't heal. SCC can grow and spread to other parts of the body if left untreated, making early detection crucial for successful treatment.

🦠 Melanoma: Is the most aggressive and deadliest form of skin cancer, often arising from abnormal moles or pigmented lesions. Early detection and treatment are critical for preventing melanoma from spreading to other organs.

Regular skin checks and self-examinations are essential for detecting skin cancer early when it's most treatable. Prioritise your skin today and book yourself a full-body skin check!

Make sure you're still taking steps to protect your skin, such as wearing protective clothing, seeking shade, and using sunscreen with a high SPF and broad-spectrum protection.

How quickly does skin cancer grow? 🤷‍♀️

There is no set time. While some such as basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) tend to grow very slowly, others like melanomas can spread in as little as 6 weeks.

Having a baseline photographic record of your skin’s moles and lesions can help you and healthcare professionals most accurately monitor for changes over time to detect any signs of skin cancer as soon as possible 🔍
