The day before opening Happy Tails Pet Laundromat is probably one you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

For everyone else, it’s just another Friday.

For you, it’s the final chapter of months of planning, dreaming, spending, worrying, fixing, changing your mind, changing it back again, and wondering if you’ve forgotten something.

You’ll unlock the doors early, probably before the sun is up, and walk through the shop one more time.

You’ll straighten a sign that’s already straight.

Wipe a machine that’s already spotless.

Fold a brochure that nobody would notice.

Move something 10 centimetres… then move it back again.

Stand in the middle of the shop and quietly think…

“Tomorrow… people will actually be walking through these doors.”

Friends and family will probably tell you to go home and get some sleep.

You’ll smile…

…then stay another couple of hours “just doing one more thing.”

As the sun goes down, the shop will become strangely quiet.

The washing machines will sit there waiting.

The dryers will be silent.

The bright colours, the vending machine, the photo wall, the advertising boards and every little detail you’ve obsessed over will finally be ready.

You’ll lock the door.

Then unlock it again because you’ll remember one last thing.

Then lock it again.

Drive away…

…only to wonder if you actually locked it.

Sleep probably won’t happen.

You’ll lie there replaying everything.

“Did I clean it enough?”

“Will people come?”

“Have I forgotten anything?”

“What if…”

And then your mind will drift to the happier thoughts.

The first customer.

The first dog that walks through the door.

The first load of washing.

The first smile.

The first “Wow, this place is amazing!”

By morning, the nerves will still be there.

But they’ll be replaced by excitement.

Because after all the early mornings, late nights, countless decisions, and endless hard work…

The dream becomes reality. Tomorrow.
