Sometimes the people who need to hear those words most are the ones who have stopped explaining themselves.

The quiet ones.
The ones who still smile.
Still work.
Still show up.
Still carry on while fighting battles nobody bothered to ask about.

It’s easy to watch someone from a distance and decide who they are.

To hear one side of a story.
To make assumptions.
To count another person’s mistakes while quietly overlooking our own.

I thought the people I valued, valued me too, especially through a journey like cancer. I was wrong.. they disappeared.. they made their own issues more important instead of showing up..

Behind closed doors are conversations you didn’t hear, tears you didn’t see,
burdens you didn’t carry, and reasons you may never understand.

Sometimes kindness is questioning the story you’ve told yourself about someone.

Sometimes it’s choosing curiosity over judgement.
Compassion over blame.
And self-reflection before pointing a finger. People are so self absorbed in their own lives.. even the ones you thought were friends

And sometimes the person who went quiet didn’t stop caring.

They simply became tired of defending their heart to people who had already decided what to believe.

So today, don’t just ask “R U OK?”

Ask it without judgement.
Ask it without assumptions.
And be willing to listen to the answer without talking about your own problems and making them more important.

Because you never really know what someone has been carrying quietly. 🤍
