🐝 Bee Fact Friday! 🐝

Did you know that a single honeybee will produce only 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her entire lifetime?

Yet together, a colony of 50,000 bees can produce up to 100 lbs of honey in a single year. That is the power of community, cooperation, and nature working in perfect harmony.

At Eco Living Aruba, we are humbled every day by the incredible work of our bees. We take only what they can spare, and we give back by protecting their habitat on our beautiful island. 🇦🇼

In 2024, Jane Goodall spoke on TODAY about how to do good on Earth: "Every day we live on this planet, we make some impact, and we can choose."

We should always strive to consider ethics in our lives. Asking questions about where and how our purchased items come from is important, even if we think our small choices don't make an impact. Be the hope. RIP Jane Goodall.

Recently we were tapped to help reorganize the Apiculture sector at Santa RosaAruba. The idea is to have a location at Santa Rosa where we can keep bees but also experiment on growing food and distributing water for them in a way that is adaptable in an urban environment. Out of the 9 boxes that were there only 4 boxes were still viable so we have our work cut out for ourselves. We will be incorporating some of our home grown bee stands, wooden boxes and spacing of hives. From preliminary observations there is potential to fortify the apiculture section at Santa Rosa with room to improve on our own beekeeping techniques. This has always been one of our goals, to adapt and to improve upon beekeeping techniques on Aruba. The work there has already begun and the area will slowly be transformed into a Bee think tank of sorts. We will ofcourse do our best and are happy to contribute to Aruba's Bee knowledge for future generations.

Its been an honor and a blessing to work with Bees these last 7 years. The Bees have taught me so much about resilience, diversity, mindset, creativity, teamwork, efficency, stubborness, persistence, etc. etc. The list goes on. But one of the most important things the Bees have given me as a gift is the opportunity to educate and share knowledge to others, especially the next generation. On this World Bee Day I had the opportunity to share some insights about the Bees as well as life lessons they have taught me to some young future Beekeepers and I am thankful for that. Besides all the Social Media posts about World Bee Day we should make it a part of our Daily lives to learn more about them on a daily basis and appreciate all the polinators that live on this world that we all share.

Today we celebrate Daniel- my husband, beekeeper, and true guardian of nature.

It’s not only his birthday, but also Earth Day—a beautiful reminder of how his work with Eco Living Aruba helps keep our planet in balance.

While I work from the ground up, regenerating the soil and growing food forests, Daniel works from the air down—caring for bees, pollinating life, and educating others on the importance of harmony with nature.

Happy Earth Day. Happy birthday. Let’s keep building a greener, more connected Aruba—one plant, one bee, one act of love at a time.

Aruba Bees are resilient and have adapted to our climate. Even though they aren't large scale honey producers they can still survive in the dry arid environment of Aruba and polinate flowers, which then becomes food for us. I wouldn't be surprised if our species of Aruba Bees may one day need to be exported to other countries in order for those countries to have bee populations that can handle global warming.

Sometimes our Bee Experience guests say they feel inspired by me, but to me its the other way around. I feel very lucky to share some of Aruba's small secrets to our Island visitors. Each Bee Experience is different and each Island guest is different. Many thanks Bethany!
