Long before store-bought toys, our ancestors created simple, beautiful things from what the sacred land provided. Across Eastern Europe, folk dolls were handmade from natural materials like straw, grain and corn husks. These humble creations were more than just toys, they were also a reflection of creative resourcefulness + the deep connection between people and the land that holds them.

So for this month, instead of participating in my regular Inktober challenge, I decided to delve even further into my Slavic roots via Kamila | pigeon’s creative prompts…

This past week we explored the theme of “Dolls & Pocket Companions”… the first slide features my pen and ink sketch of a corn doll talisman included with a sigil I personally designed for protection.
