Let’s talk nail thickness!

Something I’ve been hearing more and more lately is, “I’m tired of my nails feeling so thick and bulky.”

Gels or acrylics don’t need to feel bulky to be strong. The free edge should be kept nice and thin, approximately credit-card thin — while the structure and strength are built where they’re actually needed.

The thickest point of a properly structured nail is the apex, not the free edge (end of the nail), and on very short nails, that apex can be quite subtle depending on the nail and the structure needed.

This is what nail techs call looking “down the barrel” of the nails. 👀 You can see just how thin those free edges are — even after the gel, colour and nail art have all been applied.
Strong doesn't have to mean thick. ❤️

New shape, new length, same love for a little nail art ❤️🤍
I decided to trade in my longer nails for a shorter squoval set that's a little more keyboard-friendly — but obviously I wasn't giving up the fun. 😂
Classic red, crisp white polka dots, and a couple of French accents.

This is Miss Erin Patricia 's nails.

A little nail rescue from last night!

She reached out after having a set done elsewhere that she just wasn’t completely happy with and asked if I could help.

We removed the previous product, started fresh, to create something that felt much more her.

There’s nothing better than seeing a client loving her nails. 🩷

(The before photo wasn't taken by me).

The polka dots looking amazing on her!

✨ What's in a traveling nail technician's toolbox? ✨

Ever wondered what I bring to your appointment?

This video is a complete tour of my mobile nail setup! From my gels and tools to my sanitation supplies and everything in between, this is the 50–60 lb rolling salon that comes to every appointment.

A huge shout-out to my husband, Steven, who carries everything in, helps me set up, and packs everything away while respecting my sanitation and disinfection procedures. I couldn't do it without him. ❤️

Grab a coffee ☕ and come take a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into bringing the salon experience right to your door!

Have a question about anything you see? Ask away in the comments! 😊

✨ A Fresh New Look for L&S Nail Boutique! ✨

Over the past 11 years, my business has gone by a few different names, including Nails by Lori and Scotia Nail Bar. While I loved what I did, I never felt like the branding truly reflected who I am or the experience I wanted to create for my clients.

Then my husband suggested L&S Nail Boutique—with L for Lori and S for Stephen—and everything just clicked. Since we're a family-run business, it couldn't have been more perfect.

I'm so excited to introduce my new branding! It represents everything I want L&S Nail Boutique to be: 🩷 Friendly 🩷 Professional 🩷 A little magical 🩷 Focused on helping you feel beautiful and confident.

You'll start seeing this new look on my page, business cards, vehicle magnets, and future posts.
Thank you for supporting me on this journey. I can't wait to continue bringing a little magic to your nails! ✨
