Constipation after surgery is common, but there are ways to help prevent it.
Anesthesia, certain pain medications, reduced movement, and changes in eating and drinking can all slow things down after surgery.
During recovery, hydration, gentle movement as directed, and gradually adding fibre-rich foods can help support regularity. Your surgical team may also give you a specific bowel-care plan to follow.
