Osteoarthritis Health: A video explanation of osteoarthritis discussing topics such as pathophysiology, joint changes, x-ray findings, and management.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis. It affects more than 10% of Canadians and approximately 50% of new cases occur in those over the age of 50, as a result, it is typically defined as an age-related disorder.

The joints in our body are constantly undergoing a cycle of making new tissue and recycling old, OA is the consequence of an imbalance between this cycle of breakdown and repair. If left unmanaged, this imbalance will result in structural and functional changes to synovial joints.

[1] Downward Facing Frog⁣
Hands places firmly on the ground. Knees apart. Feet together. ⁣Slowly lower your 🍑 towards your heels. ⁣
Hold for 3-5 seconds to deepen the stretch. Repeast⁣

[2] Deep side lunge⁣

Soleus Lunge - The soleus muscle is often overshadowed by its more commonly known partner the gastrocnemius, but it is the prime mover in plantar flexion when the knee is bent! A lunge position is a great way to load a heel raise when your goal is to target the soleus.

⭐️Meet The Team⭐️ ⁠
Andrew graduated from the Dalhousie University School of Physiotherapy in 2009 after working for three years as a massage therapist, trainer and kinesiologist in Halifax, Nova Scotia. ⁠

His focus has been musculoskeletal and athletic injury ever since. Andrew was a successful owner, coach and resident injury prevention consultant of a thriving Cross Fit gym prior to joining the Canadian Armed Forces. He served for four years as a Physiotherapy Officer for soldiers in garrison and in the field. ⁠

Retiring from military service in 2015, Andrew stayed on at CFB Edmonton as a civilian staff Physiotherapist to continue to serve our Armed men and women. Returning to the environment of civilian practice, functional exercise and Cross-Fit, has him excited to keep all of his patients lifting what they want to lift, playing what they want to play and doing what they want to do! Andrew employs his experience in manual therapy, soft tissue manipulation and exercise to prevent injury, restore function, eliminate pain and maximize performance.

Kinesiology Tape or “Ktape” is a useful tool for rehab and performance when it is used in the right ways.⁠

For each theory of use, there is a different method of application used when using the tape, varying the amount of stretch of the tape and stretch of the tissue. Careful application of the tape should be taken into consideration based on the goal you are trying to use.⁠
