All Done Up

Everyone say hi to Betty. Betty has travelled all over the world and is an avid collector of sea glass, making many beautiful creations with her findings. Busy with her writing club and book club. She also bowls multiple times a week and is always physically active, from walking to exercise classes, the Phys Ed teacher in her from her work decades before has never stopped. This beautiful lady comes into me every Wednesday and was all pretty in Pink last week for me. She's always telling me about the nice visit she has with her boys and about the puzzle she has on. She's happy that the weather is changing and gardening season is upon us even though she doesn't partake anymore. She's told me about the great memory she has of gardening with her husband and the nice tomatoes they grew over the years. Please wish this lovely lady a happy Mother's Day in the comments.

Hey everyone, say hi to the beautiful Gertrude, Gert, or Gertie. This lady is in her late 90's and has so much wisdom and humor to share. She recently moved from the retirement side over to assisted living. She said she feels that she's too old for change but there's no point dwelling on the past or the future, life is always changing no matter your age, and you just need to embrace it and find happiness where you are today. I think of this advice often when my daughter doesn't want to go to sleep at night and wants to keep playing because she had such a great day, I know I'll miss these days with her when she's older and long for them again, so today I'll be grateful for where we are and what we have, and deal with the inevitable change that will come my way when it does. Hey everyone say hi to Becky! Becky comes in every Thursday morning for a shampoo blowout with me. She has such a great attitude and loves her life here at Parkland Fredericton. She's really happy she doesn't have to cook anymore and says that she's never felt healthier with the three meals a day she gets here and that they're all delicious. Becky is really looking forward to gardening season and will be using one of the raised beds that the residents can sign up for, although she's still deciding what she's going to grow this year. She always talks about how kind the staff is and no matter what the weather is gets outside every single day. She says you just have to dress for it, which I think is great advice and try to remember that myself when my daughter is asking to go outside when it's 30 below and I don't really want to, there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

I don't play favorites with my brides but this one was extra special. When your beautiful sister in law that you've known for over 20 years gets married and asks you to do her hair and your daughter to be her flower girl, I couldn't ask for a more special moment. So proud so know this beautiful woman and all that she has become.

90% of the time when doing wedding hair, there's someone extra to jump on the hair train if I have the time. Thankfully this weekend I did. This Auntie of the bride went to a salon in the city with her sisters and when she showed them her inspo pic was told they couldn't do it and could only get a few curls instead. I'm not sure exactly if there was a miscommunication in booking, or a stylist fearful of not being able to deliver the desired look. She left crying, called the bride who asked me if I could fit in just one more person. It was an easy, quick updo, taking less then a half hour but made me, the bride and her auntie all feel amazing to have turned her day around. One of the many things I love about my job is when I can be a day saver!
