One of my absolute favorite parts of permanent makeup is tackling a true transformation—especially the challenging ones!

This particular lip neutralization has been at the top of my client’s wish list ever since she came to our studio for a brow correction.

Much like corrective brow work, lip neutralization requires a deep understanding of color theory. A seasoned artist has to carefully assess the natural lip color and condition to predict how the pigments will heal—which also relies on the client following all pre- and post-care instructions!

Because there is no one-size-fits-all solution in PMU, every single experience is completely customized.

For her first session, our goal was to neutralize the natural brown tones, create symmetry, and build a soft, beautiful base. Honestly, photos don’t even do it justice—the healed results look even more flattering in person!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Her main concern with her previous healed brows was the arch-to-tail section. The original nano hairstrokes lacked visibility, which lost structure and made her brows look shorter than she liked.

This client hated her dark, heavy cover-up brows. They were done too thick for her features, tattooed too deeply, and left behind scar tissue. Before the cover up done elsewhere, she also had Microblading done.

🎨 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐤 “𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐞”: Dark brow inks are made by mixing black, yellow, and red pigments.

💥 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭: The laser easily shatters the darkest blue/black ink first. Once that top layer is gone, the hidden red pigments underneath are revealed!

⚠️ 𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞? No! This color shift doesn’t happen to every client. A lot comes down to the original artist’s technique—differences in pressure, hand speed, and how deeply the ink was packed into the skin completely change how the laser responds.

🩹 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐈𝐧𝐤 & 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: In this specific case, because the ink was implanted with heavy pressure and buried too deeply, it takes a few extra steps to safely peel back those trapped layers.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬? This is a completely normal stepping stone for this type of correction! By Session 3 (right photo), stubborn red has faded substantially.
