Karel Doruyter was born in Rotterdam during WW II and immigrated to Canada in 1953. Karel developed a lifelong relationship with landscapes shaped by both study and exploration. His time working in design, boat building and marine surveying informed a painting practice grounded in observation and precision.

Artist highlight. Along the coast of British Columbia, expedition to the arctic and Chile Karel Doruyter found his deepest inspiration; creating work that distills vast, weathered environments into quiet, contemplative scenes of light and atmosphere.
