Did we hear frost is coming? Tonight we may want to cover our gardens if we want to save any of our plants. Tis the season where we bring in everything from the gardens and put it away for the winter. Some of us have been very busy canning and getting ready for the winter. We also prepared Elecampane Root to dry. What a process this is. So now we have it drying to be made into powder.

Elecampane Root

Potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer properties.
Respiratory health and suppress coughing.

We encourage you to do your own research on this plant as there are more benefits that have not been discussed.

One more market until we close to prepare for our full time opening on October 5. Anyone who wants to join us on this journey is invited to a meeting on September 17 at 7:00.

It was a treat to have Sara Lynn Dewar come and teach us about "Cure is in Your Panry". Sara is very knowledgeable and can learn lots from her. We had a great turn out and looking for more classes with her. If you are at all wanting to get into the medicinal herbs you may want to check out the classes that will be held here in the future. Thank you Sara for a great evening.

Well it is September 10 and we are still having some great weather. I am thinking this month will be better than the past few months that we have had, but the air is starting to feel like fall time. So here we are at MO JO's getting the things out of the garden. It is also a great time for the farmers to get their crops in. Noticed that the farmers have to spray their crop to kill all what is living still. Anyways we were out last night cleaning up some medicinal roots. Yes roots are also very medicinal. Always something to do but wouldn't want it any other way.

Today we will discuss Calendula. Many of you know about Calendula but did you know that it is very medicinal? Some of the properties for this amazing plant is:
powerful anti-inflammatory,
antimicrobial,
wound-healing properties

We encourage you to also do your research on this plant.

Heritage Herbs has Calendula both in a salve and dried.

Stop by the Barn Market/Garage Sale on Thursdays to see what we have for sale. Also other vendors joining us this evening. Our last market/garage sale will be on September 17th until we open full time in October, which I am very excited about

We are going to be coming into very hard times so what better time to support each other than to come to a place where we can feel like a community. We need to support each other.

Anyone wanting to become a vendor we are having a meeting on September 17th at 7:00. Any questions please ask.

Have a great day

Anyone tired of all the flies yet? I guess this is a good indication that the cold weather is coming, although It is nice to see the trees are just starting to change color. It would be nice to have a long fall without any frost but not sure if this will happen so last night we were out getting more medicinal plants and their roots. Did you know that not only the aerial parts are medicinal but also the roots are as well. This is a great time to get the roots from some medicinal plants as all the energy from the plant goes into the roots.

Before it gets to cold I would like to discuss a medicinal plant that grows everywhere. We all have walked over it. Last year I found out about Plantain and it has come in very handy. Knowing that it grows everywhere it is a plant that is easy accessible.

Drawing agent (able to draw out and close up infected areas. Best for dirty wounds.
Cooling, pulls tissue together tightly
For bees, mosquito and spider bites
Tooth Aches

We encourage you to do your own research on this plant.

So before it freezes outside you may want to go for a walk a see if you can find a few plantain leaves to dry. You can then make it into herbal tea, infused oil, healing salves, tinctures and poultice.

God has given us these plants to use medicinally so why not use them instead of always running to go see a doctor.

You can check out Heritage Herbs on Thursday evenings from 3:00 - 8:00. In October we will be open Monday to Saturday.

Wouldn't you know it now my garden decides to produce. A little late this year, but won't complain with the harsh weather it had to endure from heavy rains, raining every day and the baseball size hail that we received.
Anyone still looking for cucumbers or beans. Let us know, we may be able to help you out.
Guess what will be going on at MO JO's today? Someone say pickling yes that is correct. Also hoping to have some time to work on the herbs.

Well now that we have gone through five medicinal herbs let us continue our walk through God's pharmacy.

Hyssop

“Grateful drink, well adapted to improve the tone of a feeble stomach”

Tea can be made for nose, throat and the lungs
Cleansing and purifying body
Nervine
Expectorant Anti-spasmatic
Diaphoretic (promoting sweating) for respiratory infections
Leaves to heal wounds
Applied to bruises

You can make tea, salve, oil and tinctures

An intersting read

"A traditional practice in Europe was to press Hyssop leaves and flowers into psalm books, then sniff the pages during services to stay awake in church!"

We have this available in dried herb.

You can stop by the Barn Market/Garage Sale on Thursday evenings to check out Heritage Herbs with other vendors or wait till we open in October to check out what there will be.

There is still some room in this class for this Thursday.

Wow what an awesome week end we had. Yes is was a wet week end but it was nice to see the sun in the afternoon yesterday. The last two days we have been at the Edson Demoliton Derby with the food trailer. Even with the rain they had a great turn out. These people truly know how to have a good time whether it be rain or shine.
Now back to our daily routines. With it being wet outside there will be no foraging going on but it is time to put the dry herbs away into there glass jars.
Today will be a full day of pickling cucumbers and working on herbs.

We have now gone through how these plants work.
Golden Rod
Lions Tail
Chamomile
Comfrey

As we continue our list of herbs we will go with Nettle.
Most people have Stinging Nettle in their back yard but did you know that it is very medicinal for us?

High in protien, vitamins and minerals. People including pregnant women can take this for a nutritional boost. One of the top herbs for kidneys. Weak kidneys use root or seeds. High or low blood pressure the Nettle will bring it into balance

We encourage you to do your own research since this is a very valuable herb.

Heritage Herbs has dried herb for sale. You can see us at the Barn Market/Garage Sale or wait till we open up full time in the month of October.

With the Market/Garage Sale opening up full time if you are interested in finding out about putting your items up for display in the barn you are more than welcome to join us on September 17 at 7:00 for a meeting to see how we are going to work things.

This week end has been a little wet, and it sure has cooled off. Do I say fall is here.
We were at the Edson Mud Bogs yesterday and are going again today with the food trailer. Edson folks know how to have a good time in the rain. They also know how to support the food industry. Thank you Edson. So to say we have not been able to work on the herbs much this week end, but at it again tomorrow.

With having an inventory of medicinal herbs all set out for sale I would like to talk about Comfrey.
So far we have went over
Golden Rod
Lions Tail
Chamomile

Now Comfrey. Comfrey is very popular with many people so I really don't have to say much about this plant, although it is very useful.
-Heals from the top, down
-Good for:
Delayed bone healing, broken bones (if the bone is in place)
Torn ligaments
Use Leaf

There is more information on this wonderul plant but we encourage you to do some researching yourself.

We have this herb dried, in a salve and a oil.

At this time you can see us at the Barn Market/garage sale on Thursday nights but in October we will be open Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 5:00.

With the overview on the medicinal plants let us further our discussion on what we have available at Heritage Herbs. So far we have discussed:
Golden Rod and Lions Tail
Today we will be go over Chamomile
Chamomile is popular to many of you but to some it may come as a surprise.
Chamomile
Promotes sleep, reduce anxiety, mild sedative for insomnia,
Relieve cramps, gas, indigestion and minor stomach upsets
We have a customer who has a horse that likes to buck. She gives the horse a few chamomile flowers and the horse settles right down. Yes this is hard to believe, even for me.

There is more information on this wonderul plant but we encourage you to do some researching on it.

We have this herb dried, in a salve and a oil.

At this time you can see us at the Barn Market/garage sale on Thursday nights but in October we will be open Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 5:00.
