Welcome to the Symptom Spotlight Series! In the coming weeks, we’ll highlight different symptoms and offer valuable insights.
First up…Hot Flashes & Night Sweats!
Hot flashes and night sweats (also referred to as vasomotor symptoms) are common during perimenopause and menopause, caused by hormonal fluctuations. They affect up to 80% of women in menopause!
Hot flashes are sudden feelings of intense heat, often accompanied by sweating, redness, and a racing heart. They can occur at any time, lasting from a few seconds to several minutes.
Night sweats are hot flashes that happen during sleep, causing intense sweating that can disrupt rest.
Both symptoms are linked to changes in estrogen levels, which affect the body’s temperature regulation.
These symptoms typically begin in perimenopause, the transitional phase before menopause, and may persist for years after menopause.

Perimenopause is the 7-10 years prior to menopause. It’s marked by hormonal fluctuations, leading to irregular periods, hot flashes, mood changes, and brain fog just to name a few!
Menopause marks a single day in a woman’s life (12 months after the last period). After this day, she is considered post menopausal. The average age of menopause is 51, but ranges from 45-55. Symptoms persist during this time 🥵
