Good advice from Healthy BC. We hope everyone's doing well over the summer. Are you prepared for the worst to happen? I'm asking.

Good on you if so! Take care of yourself and relax. The alternative is so much worse I found. Imagine if the worst was to happen and you weren't prepared. Be glad it wasn't you!

If you’re struggling, it can be easier to go through it with someone. Ask yourself, “is there anything I need today?” and don’t be afraid to reach out for it.

May is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Month – an opportunity to join the MS community in raising awareness about MS and collectively navigating MS together. Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world, and, on average, 12 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day.

MS Canada provides information, support, and advocacy to Canadians affected by MS, and funds research to find the cause and cure for the disease. As part of the MS community, we are committed to ensuring Canadians living with MS, and their families, can participate fully in all aspects of life.

MS can be expensive. Treatments that work might not be covered, newly recognized wellness programs etc, so expensive. Got a medical puffer from 2023 smoke? Need to buy sleep apnea equipment? I'm not sure on that, best ask to be sure. They cover some like: consumables for glucose monitoring and diabeties treatment including secure disposal. The monitor and needle itself. Same for MS treatments if not covered. Even if you can afford it up front. That I'm sure of

DTC helps somewhat but you must pay taxes federally. Meh. Even if you're making below poverty level anyway and get any taxes back, or slightly more and this becomes credits against... All good if not able to pay any in taxes, a program avalible for you and everyone is Pharmcare, it covers approved out of pocket medical costs like perscriptions. Equipment. Consumables. Above what DTC misses, anyway. Yeah, on those taxes. So needed. See us at HandyCircle ResourceSociety for tax needs and questions, at any time of the year, and ask about their other services! 250-563-1852 voice mail addressed daily Monday to Friday!

Have you heard about Fair PharmaCare?

The Fair PharmaCare plan is here to help BC families pay for eligible prescription drugs, medical supplies, and pharmacy services.

Fair PharmaCare coverage is based on annual family income. The less a family earns, the more help they receive. A family can be one person or a couple – with or without children. Fair PharmaCare determines your deductible and family maximum based on your tax return. Families pay eligible costs until their deductible is met. Then PharmaCare pays 70% of eligible costs until their annual family maximum is met. After that, PharmaCare pays 100% of eligible costs.

Fair PharmaCare is just one of BC PharmaCare’s 12 plans that help BC families access the prescription drugs and services they need. Registration for Fair PharmaCare is free, so what are you waiting for? Sign up now!

Learn more at www.gov.bc.ca/fairpharmacare or by calling us at 1-800-663-7100 (toll free) or 604-683-7151 (Lower Mainland).

Pregnancy hormone repairs myelin damage in MS mouse model 06/19/2023

I've heard that women, the biggest population of MS, get pregnant, their MS goes into complete remission. But after the birth, at least one woman I listened to mentioned a major attack.
Not being a woman, the conversation wasn't detailed. I always wondered, though. You might be interested in this. I am, just in case I get the chance to listen again. This could be exciting news for you.
