As you go through the process of making changes in your life its important to remain patient and not be too hard on yourself.
Our brain and subconscious is always going to take us back to what's familiar to them. This makes it a challenge to do things in a different way as our conscious mind fights against the old programming.
You're very likely going to slip up and fall back into old patterns and thats perfectly fine. Dont beat yourself up over it. After years of doing things a certain way it takes the brain and mind some time to adjust to a new way of being.
As you recognize this withing yourself, even if you've slipped, understand that means toure gaining self awareness and thus are moving in the right direction! Give yourself some grace and celebrate your efforts as you go. Eventually youll just start doing new things naturally without much thought or effort. Stay patient. Stay consistent. And I promise youll get there!

Thoughts are just thoughts. They have no power over us unless with give our attention to them.
When we fixate on a specific thought it triggers an emotional reaction within our bodies. Once activated our minds will then give us thoughts that are consistent with our current emotional state. This tends to trap us in a cycle of thinking, feeling and emotion. And these cycles can be challenging to get ourselves out of.
Remember where you place your attention is where you place your energy. Where focus goes energy flows. The ability to direct your focus is a skill that we should all be working on developing daily.
The ability to introduce a thought is where our power lies. Instead of focusing in random thoughts that come up within our minds we have the ability to introduce a thought and then focus our energy on it. Have some thoughts and things you'd like to focus on ready to go. This will make it much easier to shift im that direction when we find ourselves stuck on certain thoughts.

Learn to give things space. Practice the pause. Respond don't react.
Between stimulus and response theres a space. And in order to make changes in our lives we need to utilize that space.
The subconscious mind processes information faster than our conscious mind does. And as a result we can be very reactive in our lives. When a stimulus occurs our conditioned response is the immediate reaction, often times before we even think about it.
When you pause you have an opportunity to choose your response as opposed to reacting in the way you've programmed yourself to be. This is imperative to make a different decision. This is where your inherent free will exists. And if we don't use this space we will always go back to pur conditioned repsonses and do things the way that we've always done them.
When you get activated in your life stop. Pause. Consider what you'd like your response to the situation to be. And then make the appropriate choice free from what you may be feeling inside of your body.

So many of us have no trouble giving compassion to others in the times of need but we struggle to turn that inwards when its needed.

Discipline is the ultimate act of self love. Delaying gratification in the present moment to achieve a gain in the long term.
In order to change your subconscious programming and rewire your brain you're going to require discipline. This process is done through repetition. We need tonbe consistent with our new thoughts, habits, beliefs, emotional states and behaviors.
The subconscious mind is governing the vast majority of our behavior. Meaning our conscious mind is fighting an uphill battle in order to change. But the only way to change is to consciously make a choice in the moment. And then repeat those choices again and again until they become hardwired into our brain as our subconscious programming. This process requires the discipline to make new choices even when your thoughts are working against you, telling tou every reason it can come up with not to go in a different direction.

Comparison is the thief of joy.
When it comes to our current social media generation it can be very challenging not to look at others lives and wish we had what others did. But its important to keep things in perspective. People post the highlights of their lives on social media. Most of what you see isn't even a true indication of that person's life.
The mind likes to compare itself to others. This is a trapping of the ego. Remember we are all on different paths. Everyone has loved different struggles, experiences and come from different places. Just because someone appears to be "doing better" than you doesn't necessarily mean they are.
Keep your eyes on your own road. Focus and hone in on what you can control in your own life. Handle what's in your hands and work on that daily. Who knows before you know it you could be living a life that others wish they had!

Embrace the power of surrender.
Most of the circumstances in our lives are largely out of our control. What is within our power is the ability to control how we respond to those circumstances.
The same exact event in our lives offers two different experiences depending on our internal state. We tend to project what we're feeling inwards outwards onto life.
If we need things in our external reality to be a certain way in order for us to be okay inside we're going to have a really bad time. The work becomes to clean up what's going on inside of us so that we can be okay regardless of the circumstances going on around us.
When things come up in our lives try to remain neutral and work with them as opposed to against them. This doesn't mean bad things aren't going to happen. It just means we don't make them worse by piling on with our own projections.

Physical health and mental health go hand in hand.
The most under utilized anti depressant on the face of planet earth is exercise. I can speak from personal experience that nothing improved my mental well being like has exercise has.
When it comes to exercising its important to find something that you enjoy doing. This makes it far more likely that you will actually do it.
Getting your body moving consistently offers tremendous benefits in so many areas of your life. And it can be as easy as going for a walk around the block. The tendency once you start exercising is also that you will start to push yourself a little bit further as you go which helps build resilience and mental fortitude. You start to realize that the mind can be utilized to control the body. And when you can control both you become a master of your reality!

Reflection and introspection are so important to recognizing our patterns and the areas in our life where we need to work, the habits and behaviors we need to change and weeding out the thoughts and emotions that are keeping us trapped in endless cycles of thinking and feeling.
Spending some time doing this daily is one of the most beneficial practices you can add to your daily routine. Take a few moments at the end of the day and go over your day. What did you do today? What emotions kept you stuck? What thoughts did you focus on? What habits and behaviors did you utilize? Were they helping your grow or holding you back?
This work is done to gain awareness of self not for self judgement. Once the awareness is established we can go about making plans to deal with these things as they come up in our lives. And when they do its about getting conscious in the moment, recognizing the pattern and then making a decision yo do sonething differently.

Something that's important to understand is that we can become addicted to our own emotional states.
Much like an addict craves their drug of choice our body will become addicted to the chemical release we identify as feelings. And over time it will need more of a stimulus in order to get the fix that it craves.
At this point our minds begin to work against us. It will search for stimulus within the external world in order to get the release its looking for. Thoughts pop up at random in an attempt to drag us into an emotional reaction. If we are not mindful of our thoughts it becomes very easy to get sucked into this cycle.
Being aware of this is key. We have to begin to observe ourselves and what emotions tend to keep us stuck on a day to day basis. Once we've established this awareness it becomes our job to remain conscious and present and not allow our thoughts processes to suck us back into the cycle. This enables us to break the cycle of that specific emotional addiction.

One of the best skills you can work on developing within yourself is the ability to observe your thoughts without getting attached to them.
Thoughts drive emotions. And we will always get thoughts that are consistent with our current emotional state. When an emotional reaction arises within us and we get fixated on a thought it will perpetuate the cycle of that emotional reaction.
Most thoughts pass through our awareness without us even noticing them. But it's that thoughts that get us stuck that cause us the issue. And then we get trapped in a loop until we can catch ourselves and shift our focus elsewhere.
Practicing observing your thoughts is something we should doing every single day. A great way to do this is meditation. It allows us to shut out the external noise and practice bringing ourselves back to the present moment free of the stimulus of the external world. Think of this like reps in the gym for your mind. The mind is a muscle and we can absolutely train it.
