Rana Abdelkarim RMT & Shamanic Practitioner
Reconnect with yourself. Understand what you need. Create a life that feels like yours. Massage Therapy in St Albert & Shamanic Healing in Edmonton.
Clients often describe my presence as calming, grounding, and intuitive. What I bring to each session includes:
Respect for your boundaries and your pace
An integrated view of the body, energy, and nervous system
A grounded therapeutic approach — never rushed, never forceful
The ability to read patterns the body is holding and support unwinding them
A safe space to let your system soften,

My healing journey began somewhere around 16.
It was my first time being exposed to breathwork—a class that included me and mostly senior citizens.
I thought the class was beneath me.
A class focused on breathing. Who needed that? We breathe on our own, don’t we?
I hated every second of it.
I didn’t want to be there. I didn’t want to sit still. I didn’t want to be present with myself.
No one had shown me how.
All I could focus on was how uncomfortable and foreign it felt. I wanted to run away.
It’s funny looking back on it now.
Because some of the things I resisted most back then have become some of the places I find the most clarity now.
It’s in the stillness.
It’s in the presence.
It’s in the breath.
When I slow down enough to actually be with myself, I can connect more clearly with what I want and what I need. When I am present, I move differently. I make different choices. And those choices often lead me somewhere I couldn’t see when I was moving from a place of disconnection.
But I also think about that 16-year-old version of me differently now.
She didn’t need to be forced into stillness.
She didn’t need to understand why the breath mattered.
She didn’t need to be further along.
She needed to be met exactly where she was.
And I think healing is like that.
You don’t have to arrive already calm, open, spiritually connected, or ready to face everything.
You don’t have to know what you’re supposed to work on.
You don’t have to have the right words for what you’re experiencing.
Healing can begin with simply being where you are.
Sometimes that looks like feeling deeply connected.
Sometimes it looks like resistance.
Sometimes it looks like not knowing what you need.
Sometimes it looks like being tired of trying to figure it all out.
There is no particular version of you that you have to become before you are worthy of healing.
Healing meets you where you are.
And from there, it creates space for you to discover where you want to go next.

Client wins that have nothing to do with massage.
“I quit my job.”
“I’ve decided to start sharing something from my culture. I have no idea where it’ll go.”
“Oh, and I’ve noticed a significant difference in my body.”
“I’m starting to feel more like myself.”
“I got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work abroad.”
These are some of my favourite kinds of updates.
Because sometimes the most meaningful change has very little to do with what brought someone through my door in the first place.

The longer I work with bodies, the more things I’ve changed my mind about.
Early on, I think it’s easy to equate being a good therapist with knowing more techniques, working harder, finding the “right” muscle, or being able to address everything a client brings into the room.
I’m much less interested in that now.
I’m more interested in paying attention.
What changed when I did that?
What happened when I didn’t?
Did the person’s movement actually change?
Did the tissue respond?
Was I working with what was there, or just doing something because I know how to do it?
I’ve also become much more comfortable with not having to force an outcome.
Sometimes the most useful thing I can do is something surprisingly simple.
Sometimes it’s working somewhere completely different from where the client feels their symptoms.
Sometimes it’s choosing one thing to focus on instead of trying to squeeze four different treatments into an hour.
And sometimes I learn something from a treatment that completely changes how I think about the next one.
I think that’s one of the things I love most about this work.
There’s always more to notice.
Sometimes supporting yourself doesn’t have to be a big decision.
It can simply be noticing that something in you is asking for a little more attention—and making some space for it.
I have a few openings available this week for both massage therapy and shamanic healing.

I was talking with a client recently about something they’d been navigating.
They had been following the guidance they were given, trusting that it was the right thing to do. But eventually, they reached a point where they realized:
This isn’t working for me.
So they started exploring some different options.
And things began to change.
What struck me wasn’t just the outcome.
It was the pattern.
They recognized that they had done something similar in other areas of their life:
They would put up with something for a long time…
And then, once they had had enough, they’d take the action they had been wanting to take all along.
There’s something incredibly powerful about the moment we realize:
Wait. I actually have a say in this.
There’s a difference between seeking support and handing over our authority.
Between asking:
“What do you think I should do?”
and asking ourselves:
“Given what I know, what feels right for me?”
The more deeply we know ourselves, the easier it becomes to recognize that difference.
And maybe we don’t have to wait until we’re completely fed up to act.
Maybe we can listen when the quiet knowing first arrives.
Before things become unbearable.
Before we need a crisis to give ourselves permission to change something.
You are allowed to gather information.
You are allowed to ask questions.
You are allowed to seek support.
And you are still allowed to come back to yourself and decide what feels right for you.
Your life belongs to you.

Your body is remarkably adaptable.
It finds ways to keep you moving when you’re tired.
Ways to keep functioning when you’re stressed.
Ways to compensate when something isn’t moving well.
Ways to carry you through periods of life that ask more of you than you’d like to admit.
The problem is that an adaptation can become so familiar that you stop realizing you’re doing it.
The shoulders that are always tense.
The jaw that never quite unclenches.
The shallow breathing.
The constant bracing.
The way you automatically push through discomfort.
Your body isn’t necessarily failing you.
It may simply be doing what it learned to do.
Sometimes the first step toward changing a pattern is noticing that it’s there.
🪴We hold the space for you to reconnect with yourself, understand what you need, and create a life that feels like yourself. If you’re ready to get started, book your session through the link in our bio.
We learn what discomfort means by watching the people around us.
Whether a headache is something to pay attention to—or something to push through.
Whether tired means it’s time to rest—or time to have another coffee.
Whether pain is information—or an inconvenience.
Whether you stop what you’re doing when your body asks you to—or keep going because there’s always something more important.
And we don’t necessarily realize we’re learning any of this.
We’re just watching.
Listening.
Absorbing.
Until one day, we become adults who don’t know how to recognize what our own bodies are asking for.
We minimize.
We push through.
We wait until we’re miserable before we give ourselves permission to need something.
Not because we’re incapable of listening.
But because somewhere along the way, we learned that listening wasn’t necessary.
And the beautiful thing is that what we learned isn’t necessarily what we have to keep repeating.
We can become curious about our bodies.
We can learn what our own signals mean.
We can stop treating every need as an inconvenience.
We can develop a relationship with ourselves that looks different from the one we were taught.
**Sometimes healing isn’t just about changing what happened to us.
It’s about learning a new way of being with ourselves.**
If you’re ready to forge a new relationship with yourself, this is the work we do within a shamanic healing session.
