Dear Diary! Yesterday, in our last class of the clinical massage course we learned about the vagus nerve and how important it is for our overall health and wellbeing. I found it fascinating that this nerve is often called the body's "superhighway" because it connects the brain to so many organs, including the heart, lungs, and digestive system. It plays a major role in our nervous system's ability to switch between stress and relaxation.
One of the things that stood out to me was the connection between the vagus nerve, balance, and eyesight. Our eyes provide the brain with constant information about where we are in space. When our visual system is not functioning optimally, it can affect balance, coordination, posture, and even how safe and confident we feel when moving around.
Good balance depends on three systems working together: our vision, our inner ear (vestibular system), and the information coming from our muscles and joints (proprioception). If one of these systems is compromised, the body has to work harder to maintain stability.
We also learned a vagus nerve massage technique, which I found surprisingly powerful despite its gentle nature. It is such a useful tool to have in our toolbox as therapists. The treatment felt deeply relaxing and simply felt good. What I found particularly interesting was that I could actually feel the effect all the way down to my stomach. It was as though I could sense a connection running from my head, down through my neck and chest, and into my abdomen. It was a strange sensation, yet incredibly calming at the same time.
The experience helped me understand why stimulating the vagus nerve can encourage the body to move into a more relaxed state. I noticed a feeling of settling and calmness that seemed to spread throughout my whole body. It reminded me how interconnected our systems are and how a gentle technique can sometimes have a profound effect on how we feel physically and emotionally.
The vagus nerve also responds to how safe and regulated our body feels. When we are calm and balanced, our nervous system functions more efficiently. When we are stressed, tired, or overwhelmed, balance and coordination can be affected. This highlights the importance of looking after our eyesight, maintaining good posture, staying physically active, and finding ways to regulate stress.
This lesson reminded me that balance is about much more than simply not falling over. It reflects how well different systems of the body communicate with one another. Looking after our vision, nervous system, and overall health can help us move through life with greater confidence, stability, and ease. The vagus nerve massage was a great example of how a simple hands-on technique can support relaxation and help the body feel safe, calm, and connected.
Sadly, our course had come to the end, and now just the exams left at the end of the month. I utterly enjoyed the course, and if somebody has been thinking about it,I can only recommend it.
My first video clip!
Keeping it simple for now, but here's a little peek at my work here at Moonpetal Studio Massage therapy.
More to come.

Every detail in my waiting room area and treatment room has been chosen to create a calm, comfortable space where you can switch off from the stresses of everyday life.
Whether you're carrying tension in your neck and shoulders, feeling tired and achy, or need some time to yourself, I look forward to welcoming you.

This is the waiting room area. I'm very happy with how it turned out. A fact about me is that my favourite colour is teal, and all shades of blue, so you can see this in this room for sure. :-) I hope you will love it, I think it has become very welcoming and friendly. A grown-up version of me. Looks actually much better in real life than in the pictures. I think I'm rubbish at taking pictures lol.
It does needs too a sign perhaps, and a picture on the wall.

Here is the massage room itself, how it looks now. Very happy with the finished result, just needs a wall art, a sign, a painting, or something funny or just pretty to look at. If it will be one massive piece or 2 or 3 smaller, I haven't decided yet what way I will take it. What do you suggest? Let me know.

At the beginning, I got these rooms, filled with potential, but for sure, they came with lots of work, and plenty of cleaning, and more cleaning and some cleaning. Some things could be changed, some were given,so I had to work around it,and plan accordingly with furniture and decor. The hardest thing was choosing the colour of the walls.I really wanted to go for darker teal, or almost peacock colors,-if you know, you know lol. But then the rooms themselves are not that big,so dark colours would make them visually smaller, so I had to stick with some lighter ones.
