#8 See your local Barber

After a lengthy battle it’s ok to admit defeat and call in reinforcements. At the end of the day there’s no better tool for your beard than an experienced Barber. We’re not all graced with the perfect beards of Neptune, Zeus, or Bandholz. Your beard might curl up in some places, it might have a wave, or it might just puff out. A barber can help you overcome these variables and get you on the road to your dream beard. With the right products and the right techniques for using them, I believe that your beard will be a source of pride, confidence, and the envy of many. Beard on, pals!

#7 Learn to Train Your Beard

A regular trim will maintain your chosen shape, but it’s not the only way to keep your beard in line. A daily rubdown with a comb or beard brush will wrangle stubborn hairs, training them to grow in a downward direction. Don’t forget to up the ante with a beard balm, which lends some extra sculpting power while taming any flyways.

Missed yesterday due to a power outage so here’s a 2 for 1!

#5&6 Love Thy Beard Oil and Balm

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Nothing tames a beard quite like the regular use of beard oil and balm. There are many varieties to choose from but all will condition hairs to make them silky smooth. I personally recommend NewFound Beards! See below for my 3 step routine to get that beard shiny and soft.

1. After cleaning your beard, let it air dry or rush the process using a hair dryer
2. Apply a couple drops of beard oil and comb through using a soft boar bristle brush
3. Grab a small amount of beard balm and apply to the surface This will lock in that moisture and tame those wild hairs!

#4 Wash It Regularly

This is one point, the importance of which goes unnoticed! Investing in a quality beard shampoo is a must for growing a quality beard, a beard of your dreams. This is especially important in the early stages of growth, when trapped food and skin cells can worsen the itchiness. Scrub your beard several times each week with a specialized beard cleanser, then gently pat it dry: An overzealous toweling can lead to frizz and split ends.

#3 Know How (and When) to Trim

Pruning is essential to a well-groomed beard, even if you plan on growing it out. My motto when it comes to trimming, “less is more.” Start removing hair at your longest length and work your way down. Invest in a quality trimmer, and find the right technique to suit your master plan.

#2 Match Your Beard to Your Face Shape

Like most wild animals, a beard should match its surrounding environment. Swipe to check out some handy charts to help choose a shape that compliments your face and style. Your beard will look better, and so will you.

#1. First and Foremost, Be Patient.

Whether you’re keeping it short or letting it grow long, a truly epic beard is the product of some serious self-restraint. When you first start growing, resist the urge to trim for the first 4-6 weeks. This will allow the hairs to grow in evenly (some grow faster than others), and help you pick a style that suits its length and thickness.
