The final thing to do in the washday process is sealing in moisture. Sealing is locking moisture in the hair, specifically the ends. Apply a leave-in conditioner with water as its first ingredient, and then seal with butter or oil. The molecules in most butters and oils are too large to pass into the hair, so they stick to the outside of the shaft, trapping in the moisturizer. Finally put your hair in a simple protective style like bantu knots or twist outs. Make sure your protective style of choice isn’t stressing your edges, and that don’t leave it in too long.

Continuing on with the washday routine talk, let’s talk about why we need to deep condition. Here’s some reasons why deep conditioning is absolutely essential now more than ever because in winter your hair loosed moisture fast. Deep conditioning once every two weeks will help to ensure your hair gets all the nourishment it requires.

The fight for human rights is the fight for all. The purpose is to
“...
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me, and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
….”
Michael Jackson
Today there exists quite a number of organizations that are fighting to see that each person enjoys human rights. You and I have the ability to make sure each person enjoys human rights and the answer is love. This love we speak of is the genuine love that seeks out the best for another not just for myself. If as humans we ever grasp this notion of love, the fight to ensure human rights for all would be won because love never fails.

Still on the topic of shampoos, here are some common ingredients you want to avoid when picking a shampoo. Sulfates cleanse the protective oils on the scalp and the protective oils on the hair and if you don’t properly balance that in a formula this can lead to your hair feeling stripped. Unless you really need to use a clarifying shampoo which is usually high in sulfates, stay away from shampoos with sulfates. As a general rule, people with fine hair should avoid products with silicones since by nature they are heavy and can weigh the hair down and some of the silicones cause buildup. However, some silicones especially the ones that are water-soluble don’t cause buildup and those are fine to use, some examples are dimethicone copolyol, stearoxy dimethicone and behenoxy dimethicone. It’s no secret that artificial ingredients may irritate the skin and cause allergic reactions like rashes and hives so steer clear of artificial ingredients. Phthalates are man-made chemical compounds that add flexibility to many plastics. In shampoo, phthalates serve as a binding agent and they are easily absorbed into the human body. Some studies have linked the use of phthalates to changes in hormone levels and functions, increased risk of pregnancy loss, and infertility. Phthalates are also environmental pollutants and they can affect reproduction in animals. Last but not least avoid shampoos with triclosan. Like phthalates, triclosan is easily absorbed into the skin and exposure can affect reproductive health. Bottom line, shampoo is the most basic part of your washday routine - it can also be the most complicated. Identifying your hair’s most pressing needs, and then understanding the ingredients that best address those needs, will lead to the perfect formula for you. Disclaimer, we are not scientists, but you can find detailed research on these ingredients and the potential side effects of using them.
