Summer time means BBQs and bonfires but a little reminder to clients that it is very possible to burn your lashes if you get too close to heat - especially those with longer lengths. These are fans that were removed during a refill, notice anything sizzling about them? 🔥

Have you ever had a client that no matter what you do, lash extensions just won’t last? 😫

👉 Just like the hair on our heads, our natural lashes have different levels of 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 and texture to the point where the 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 of the lash cuticle matters greatly when applying lash extensions.

Someone with a smooth cuticle (right) will have a much harder time keeping lashes on than someone who has a rougher cuticle (left).

If you have a client that (no matter
what you do) cannot keep lashes on their face, there's a chance that their hair does not have much porosity and so the adhesive does not have as much to seep into. But look at the strand of hair on the left- look at all the "pockets" that adhesive can glide into and lock on to. That retention will be much greater than on the smoother strand, as it has less to grab.

There are a lot more factors to consider when dealing with bad retention (i.e. placement of extensions, improper aftercare, expired glue, etc.), but if you and your client have tried everything to keep those lashes on and nothing seems to work, this could the explanation you needed.

I remind you of this because I want you to carry less guilt when it comes to situations like these. 🤍

𝐓𝐢𝐩: for the best retention make sure you’re using fresh adhesive (you should be opening a new adhesive every 4-5 weeks) and start using a bonder! The Eyeconic Duo (Super Speed adhesive + Stay&Slay Lash Bonder) from are my holy grail 🤩

𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭: Lashes have 𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑𝐒! Yup, lashes don’t grow in one perfectly synchronized line. In fact, some clients can have anywhere from 2-6 layers of lashes, making the job as a lash artist a little bit harder - but very fun to style!

👉 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒉 𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝑰 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒎𝒚 𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒔?

As mentioned, it’s pretty rare to have a client that has only one row of natural lashes. Most commonly, people will have 3 lash layers - a top layer, middle layer, and bottom layer. The best and easiest way to get an idea of how many lash layers your client has is to use two fingers to gently lift the client’s eyelid and turn your head to view the lashes from the side. You may also notice that the inner/outer corners will be thinner in layers compared to the mid-sections.

𝐓𝐢𝐩: When styling your lashes use a more curled lash extension such as a “D” Curl on the bottom layer to really lift it upwards - especially on clients who have naturally straight or downward-pointing lashes.
