Face Masks
I first started making face masks and surgical caps as donations for Healthcare workers within the GTA when COVID-19 struck in April 2020. My dear friend who’s a devoted nurse was in desperate need of a surgical cap for work and with everything being closed, she wasnt the only healthcare professional in need. She asked me if I could help her by making her the first mask and cap and that's how my journey began.
As of today I have been able to make and donate over 360 masks and surgical caps, sewing evenings after days of managing at home with family and home schooling.
I started this project with the help of generous friends who donated funds and material. And since then many people have supported these intentions during this difficult time.
Although this project just started in April, I have made many variations of masks and I have now have achieved an original, comfortable and safe product that has been very popular among healthcare workers.
For this reason I have been asked by some of the nurses and community members, if I could make my masks to sell.
With stores being closed during COVID, it has been very challenging to find supplies and sometimes really expensive.
By selling masks, I will be able to continue my plan to make and donate masks for healthcare professionals raising my goal day by day, since I cannot bring myself to stop.
Although NO mask can guarantee that you will not get sick, there are simple ways of testing your masks to see how much protection they are providing, and all our masks go through this test before being handed out. Research and these tests taught us the right materials to use.
I feel very lucky to have the support and help of my family which has allowed me to continue working on this project every day. I especially thank my senior father who has been cutting fabric every day to help. I couldn’t have done it without him!
I would like to take the advantage to thank all our healthcare workers who are providing all of us with love and care to keep us healthy during these strange unprecedented times.
Thank you for helping me help others, and please stay safe!
