Some mountains are constantly getting taller, and one of the most famous examples is the Himalayas. These massive mountains are located in Asia and are known for their breathtaking beauty. The reason they keep growing is due to the movement of tectonic plates beneath the Earth's surface. When these plates bump into each other, they push the mountains upward, making them a bit taller every year.
This process of mountain building is called orogeny. It happens very slowly, so we don’t notice the changes right away. Over millions of years, these tiny increases in height add up, resulting in the towering peaks that we see today. The Himalayas are home to some of the tallest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest, which many climbers dream of reaching.
Mountains like the Himalayas are not just impressive because of their height; they are also important for the environment and the people living nearby. They affect the weather patterns, provide water sources, and create unique habitats for many plants and animals. Understanding how mountains grow helps us appreciate the incredible forces of nature that shape our planet.
