Androgens are either a natural or synthetic steroid hormone that regulates the development and maintenance of male characteristics in vertebrates by binding to androgen receptors.

Androgens are hormones that contribute to growth and reproduction in both men and women.

When overabundant, androgen hormones and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) influence sebum production, contributing to the development of acne.

When women stop using their birth control, they can experience a phenomenon called“androgenic rebound” where testosterone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and/ordehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) levels jump up and cause renewed bouts of acne.

We have many androgen receptors on sebaceous glands in our face and their job is to make sebum which, at normal levels, keeps our skin moisturized.
DHEA and testosterone become problematic when they are converted to DHT. DHT triggers these sebaceous receptors very acutely which causes excessive sebum production that, in turn, causes acne lesions to form.

Chronic acne is one of the most debilitating skin conditions there are to deal with.

And like most people who suffer with this condition, it causes a lot of stress, embarrassment, and frustration as you try to find a solution to make it go away.

You've tried it all, from skincare products to prescriptions from the doctor, and nothing has helped, and/or things just got worse.

Imagine if you could stop searching for a "magical" fix it product, if you had guidance and support to find products that actually worked, had the tools you need to cope with the stress and knew how to support your skin and body for optimal health and clear skin.

If this is you... I understand, and I've got your back!

If you do any activities where you sweat, you must wash your face and take a shower IMMEDIATELY afterwards. No excuses!

Sweat can cause bacteria and clogging almost instantly, even if you break a light sweat because it's hot outside.⁣

Remember to always wear clean, fresh clothes for each workout and be sure to wash your clothes especially your sports bras after each workout.

Oil is the fuel for the fire when it comes to acne.

During puberty, the rise of hormone levels result in the enlargement as well as the increased activity if the sebaceous glands.

High levels of androgen hormones create a higher level of sebum production, resulting in the potential for more severe acne. In the other hand, higher levels of the estrogen hormone can result in less sebum production.

Another cause of excess oil production is the lack of hydration (water) in the skin. When this happens, the skin compensates for the dehydration and produces more oil.

A lot of acne products on the market dry out the skin, and therefore cause this never ending cycle of acne. When treating skin with acne, we want to make sure that there is balance; we want products that are strong enough to help clear the skin, but not too strong that the skin is left dehydrated.

Skip the fabric softener if you are acne prone!

Fabric softener and dryer sheets leave a pore-clogging waxy residue on anything that comes in contain with your skin- towels, sheets, pillowcases, clothes.

To help eliminate static cling, purchase anti-static balls for your dryer and add white vinegar in with the wash load.

Additionally, be sure that your laundry detergent is free of perfumes/fragrance and dyes.

Once you're clear, don't think you're so cute that you can quit using your products!

You'll stay clear for a while but microscopic beginnings of pimples will begin to form deep in your pores causing more breakouts.

Ice, Ice Baby!

Ice is the secret weapon that is used to heal up inflamed acne lesions or cysts faster then they would on their own.

Ice is anti-inflammatory which can help to reduce the size and swelling of a pimple.

Once you reduce the swelling a bit, any acne product that you apply afterward will pe*****te much better into the skin and heal it up quicker.

To ice your pimples, just grab an ice cube and wrap a paper towel around the bottom of it so you can catch any melting water and prevent your fingers from freezing.

Apply the ice cube directly to the pimple or cyst and keep the ice moving in gentle circular motions for 20-30 second per lesion. Pat dry and continue with your skincare routine.

For best results, you can ice the pimple several times throughout the day, spaced a few hours apart. Be mindful not to over ice your skin. Reduce exposer time to 10-15 seconds per lesion if you are icing multiple times per day. Also note that some skins may get irritated if you repeat these steps too often during the day. If your skin is too irritated, please do not ice your skin.

Please note that it's normal for the skin to turn pink temporarily where the ice has been applied.

Sponges can be a great way to blend out your makeup because it gives a smooth even finish but if you're acne prone brushes are my preferred blending tool of choice.

Sponges are made of porous materials which makes it very difficult to properly disinfect them after washing them. It is also for this reason, that they are considered single-use only.

Brushes on the other hand, are much easier to clean and disinfect making them the best choice for those with acne issues so that you are not spreading bacteria and oils all over your face.

You should also clean your foundation brush after each and every use to prevent build up of bacteria on your brushes, this will also help your application from looking muddy.

It's important to note that you want to make sure that you are thoroughly rinsing all of the soap or brush cleanser out of your brushes. Any residue left in the brush will prevent the brush from picking up product and may leave a coating on your powder products.
