AFRO ECO-CHAMPION: Serge Bashonga

AFRICAN WOMEN CAN NOW WEAR HAIR STRANDS FROM BANANA 🍌 FIBRES - Serge Bashonga (Congolese Biologist and Co-host, Afro Eco-Business Innovators' Conversations, ISWA Africa).

At the moment, Serge is working on an innovative project called Bio Hair, where he makes 100% biodegradable hair extensions from Banana fibres, in order to fight synthetic hairs made of plastics. Nothing gets lost but transformed. Banana tree fibers are used in the manufacture of biodegradable hair strands, an innovation of a young Congolese biologist and Co-Host AEBIC, ISWA Africa, Serge Bashonga.

The trigger, he reports, came from the trade of wicks made from his little sister's synthetic (plastic) hair strands. As time went on and demand grew, Serge noticed that his sister's business was producing a lot of waste that was either thrown away or burned. Then he questions that: "That's when I asked myself where all these tons of plastic wicks waste that all these women are using are going?

He adds that: "After the harvest of bananas, the trunk of the banana tree has long been considered as waste but we value it. Our innovation has changed the situation". In addition to the environmental benefit, this innovation can also help create wealth by.................
