First day in my training

Call and book

I had always been self-confident, but throughout the training period in my first job in a very strange land, l was somehow intimidated by the performance of my colleagues, predominantly whites.

Keeping aside the inferiority complex, color, lack of experience in the new system, and other factors, l never wanted to emerge first again in the training as has always been my objective. I just wanted to succeed at the end, grab the job, and make money.

It's true that working with a communications company has always been my dream, but making money became the only option since the dream seemed deceptive. Everyone seemed to be doing better than me during the training.

Shortly after l was graduated into the call floor, my supervisor notified me of weekly coachings. This coaching program, according to sources, was indirectly a moment for your supervisor to point out your errors and discipline you.

Since I wasn't too sure of my performance, I patiently waited for my first coaching on that thursday to either be sent home or bullied at by my superior. Despite all these, l kept being in my best behavior and following all the rules and regulations. At least, let me go back home with a good reason.

That faithful thursday during my first coaching program, my supervisor told me of how happy he was to have me in his team. Really?? He cheered me beyond expectations, and l was shocked. Was this a trap??

Just a few weeks later, he pulled up my call matrix and showed me how high my performance was in the call center. I was like, wow. For just a few months, l was able to receive an award as one of the top performing agents in the company for the second quarter of that year.

The underlying issue

Never be intimidated by someone's success. Listen to your inner voice and never allow yourself to be influenced by your environment. It's not always the way it seems at the beginning.

The beginning might be tough in order to prepare you for the process. If you believe in yourself and follow your dream, no one will ever defeat you. Our problem is that we do not even know what we want in life or where we are going.

Your primary objective should be to uncover who you're and where you're going to before you start figuring out how to get there. If you miss out on this sequence, then you're doomed to fail.
