Promoting physical and mental well-being of pregnant women and mothers.

12/12/2025

This year’s theme calls for urgent action, and nowhere is this need more acute than among the most vulnerable members of our society: women in conflict-affected areas and those in detention.

DG3 implements two projects that address improving access to services in these two areas: Health for Reme and the Peka Prison Project

In Cameroon, women fleeing conflict face not just physical insecurity, but profound psychological trauma and crippling barriers to care. Similarly, women in prison are a highly vulnerable population, often with pre-existing mental health challenges that are exacerbated by the systemic neglect of their physical and mental wellbeing.
These projects are driven by the conviction that mental health care is a non-negotiable human right, especially in times of crisis.

Our program’s services offer more than just facilitated access. They provide a safe and confidential community where women, who may feel isolated and forgotten whether internally displaced or not can feel truly seen and accompanied in their journeys and experiences.
Peka Prison Project advocates for the provision of vital mental and physical health services to women in detention, and serves a dual purpose. It addresses immediate needs while simultaneously highlighting the dire lack of such integrated services in our national medical system. This neglect is a silent emergency that our government must confront.

We call for a shift in service delivery:
We must embrace the innovation of incorporating mental health services effectively into our medical system at all levels. Furthermore, a robust national policy that legally facilitates the right to accessible, quality mental health services for all, ensuring that mental wellbeing is a pillar of our public health infrastructure, not an afterthought.
On this World Mental Health Day, join us in raising these advocacies.

For the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, we are running a campaign called “I Believe Her” on the Health For Reme Forum. It has brought forth stories of tremendous courage. We created this space specifically to foster a culture of trust, allowing GBV survivors to speak up—anonymously or in private—and find safety in their journey.

The participation has been profoundly moving. The scale of the violence is shocking, but the resilience shared is an inspiration.

Their words are their strength. We are honored to share a few approved marks of survival:

We are committed to weaving our work into the fabric of a world free from gender violence. It is not impossible.

If their journey inspires you, join us. Speak up, offer support, and help us turn the tide.

Here is a detailed breakdown of our key activities and accomplishments:

* Fostering Digital Solidarity: We established the “I Believe Her” digital community on the Help for Reme forum, providing a crucial, trauma-informed safe space for women to connect, share their stories, and find support without judgment.
* Bridging the Support Gap: Our team successfully connected women in our online communities to essential, immediate help resources available within our dedicated support network.
* Initiating Physical Havens: We launched ground-based projects focused on supporting local shelters and developing the concept of a “Release Space”—a restorative refuge for women who lack access to safe breaks.
* Elevating Advocacy Expertise: Through focused virtual seminars and workshops, we enhanced the capacity of DG3 staff in advocating for survivors of complex, unique forms of gender-based violence and social harassment in the digital era.
* Mastering Online Outreach: We invested in learning and engaging with diverse, cutting-edge methods of online advocacy, a vital skill we are excited to deploy in our upcoming campaigns.

Happy Father’s Day to Our Pillars of Strength and Health!
Today, as we celebrate Father’s Day, our hearts are filled with immense gratitude and admiration for all the fathers around the world, and especially for the incredible men of Cameroon and the Health for REME community.

To the remarkable fathers who showed up at the family camp yesterday to support your wives and children: Your presence speaks volumes. It demonstrates a profound commitment that goes beyond words. You are not just observers; you are active, crucial partners in building healthier, happier families. This act of solidarity is a powerful testament to your dedication and understanding that family health is a shared journey, a collective responsibility.

And to all men worldwide who champion the health of their families, including those navigating the complexities of co-parenting: Your role is indispensable. For fathers who are co-parenting, your commitment to actively stepping up and sharing responsibilities is vital.

Furthermore, we call on our government and communities to recognize and actively support single fathers who are present and committed to their children’s lives. These fathers often face unique challenges, and providing resources and assistance is essential to ensuring they can continue to be strong, nurturing figures. We also encourage the facilitation of healthy co-parenting arrangements for both men and women, ensuring that both parents can effectively contribute to their children’s upbringing and well-being.
