Feeling the Heat? Cool Down and Nourish Your Body with a Cold Soup

Cold soups have become increasingly popular, especially during the summer months. They are usually low in calories, rich in nutrients and fibre, and can easily replace a complete meal while helping maintain hydration and support a comfortable body temperature.

But are cold soups really a modern trend?

Not at all.

Cold soups have been part of traditional cuisines for centuries. One of the most well-known Mediterranean recipes is Tarator, the traditional yogurt soup of the Balkans. In Greece, it was especially popular in rural areas of Thrace and Thessaly, where farmers often enjoyed it during hot summer days as a refreshing and nourishing meal after hours of physical work.

Why is Tarator so nutritious?

Its simple ingredients work together to nourish both the body and the gut microbiome.
Greek yogurt provides high-quality protein, probiotics and fat-soluble vitamins that support gut health and a balanced microbiome.
Cucumber is naturally rich in water, fibre and vitamins, helping maintain hydration and fluid balance while supporting healthy digestion.
Garlic is well known for its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and contains natural compounds that contribute to overall gut health.
Together, these ingredients create a highly satisfying meal. Their combination promotes satiety, enhances the feeling of fullness and provides lasting satisfaction without leaving you feeling heavy.

Beyond its nutritional value, a cold soup also offers a unique sensory experience. Its refreshing temperature provides an immediate feeling of freshness during hot days, while its smooth, creamy texture may enhance feelings of comfort, safety and self-care, making the meal both physically and emotionally satisfying.

For an even more balanced meal, Tarator can be served with extra virgin olive oil, fresh herbs, nuts and wholegrain bread, adding healthy fats, fibre and additional nutrients.

If cooking feels overwhelming during the summer heat, prepare a cold soup in advance. It stores well in the refrigerator, is ready whenever you need it and offers a simple, nourishing and refreshing meal.

What is your favourite cold soup?

How Many Hours a Day Do We Spend in Front of Screens?

In recent years, our constant exposure to screens and social media has reached concerning levels.
Since 2020, the term "Zoom Fatigue" has become increasingly common. Following the pandemic, many aspects of our lives—from work and education to social interactions—have moved online.

But what impact does this have on our wellbeing?

Beyond social isolation, chronic stress and burnout are more prevalent than ever. Social media and digital devices have become part of both our professional and personal lives, often taking time away from physical activity, meaningful connections, and self-care. They may also influence our eating habits and contribute to overeating.

How Does This Happen?

Many of us eat while scrolling through our phones, watching videos, or answering emails.
When our attention is focused on a screen, it becomes more difficult to recognise the body's natural hunger and fullness cues. As a result, we may consume larger portions without realising it.
At the same time, chronic stress and feelings of loneliness can contribute to emotional eating, often leading to a higher intake of foods rich in sugar, refined carbohydrates, and saturated fats.

What Can We Do?

1. Create New Daily Habits
Train yourself to enjoy meals at the table, away from screens. Ideally, share those moments with people you care about.
2. Make Time for Your Body
A walk in nature or a form of physical activity that suits your needs can help regulate the nervous system and relieve daily stress.
3. Express Yourself Creatively
Instead of spending hours scrolling, try expressing your thoughts and emotions through creative activities such as writing, painting, music, or any hobby that brings you joy.
4. Celebrate Small Wins
Every goal achieved, no matter how small, deserves recognition. Learning to celebrate our progress helps reinforce healthy habits and motivates us to keep going.

Final Thoughts

Our daily habits can change.
Through balanced nutrition, regular movement, creativity, and self-care, we can significantly improve our quality of life and develop a healthier relationship with technology.

And let's not forget something important:
We don't need to be perfect. Sometimes the journey itself is more valuable than the destination.

🌿 Why Is My Belly Always Bloated?

Bloating is one of the most common issues today — even among people who eat well and follow a “healthy” lifestyle.

And here’s the truth: it’s rarely just one cause.

First, it is essential to rule out any underlying medical or pathological conditions with a healthcare professional before exploring lifestyle-related factors.

🥗 Take care of the “food traps”

Your gut needs balance.

Fibre-rich foods (fruits, vegetables, whole grains) and fermented foods (yogurt, kefir) help support a healthy microbiome.

However, ultra-processed foods and excess sodium may contribute to bloating and fluid retention.

💧 Hydration also plays a key role in digestion and gut function.

🧠 Your gut reacts to stress

The gut and brain are deeply connected.

Stress, emotional overload, and constant mental pressure can directly affect digestion — often showing up as bloating.

🏃‍♀️ Lifestyle matters more than you think

Movement, sleep quality, and stress regulation are essential for a healthy digestive system.

Gentle abdominal massage and lymphatic massage may also help reduce discomfort and promote a feeling of lightness.

🌸 The truth

Bloating is rarely random.

It is usually the result of a combination of nutrition, lifestyle, and emotional factors.

🌿 Final thought

Our body communicates with us every single day. Bloating is not always the enemy—it can sometimes be a gentle reminder that something needs more attention, more balance and more care.

✨️ Your body is not working against you — it’s communicating with you.

Today's victory wasn't something spectacular. It was simply keeping the promises I made to myself. 🤍
I nourished my body with balanced meals, completed my workout, and took a few extra minutes to stretch with gratitude.
Instead of rushing home, I rewarded myself with a quiet walk by the river, watching the sunset and the beautiful wildflowers around me.
We often wait for the "big achievement" to celebrate ourselves, but real transformation is built through small, consistent choices.
Every healthy meal. Every workout. Every mindful moment. Every kind decision towards ourselves.

Those little victories become a beautiful life.

How do you celebrate your small wins? 🌿

The Impact of Massage on Holistic Health

My passion for human health has led me to explore different approaches related to prevention, restoration, and longevity. One practice that captured my interest 17 years ago is massage. Today, as a massage practitioner and nutrition scientist, I aim to offer my clients a truly holistic approach.

Many people ask me how nutrition and massage can be connected. The answer is actually quite simple.

Massage has become increasingly popular in recent years. Some people see it as a modern trend, while others choose it to reduce muscle discomfort after physical activity. However, far fewer people are aware of its broader role within a healthy lifestyle.

Can massage really be connected with nutrition and longevity?

I believe yes.

Massage is far from being a new invention. It has been practiced for centuries in civilizations such as India, China, Japan, and Egypt, where it was traditionally used to support physical comfort, relaxation, and overall well-being.
In traditional Chinese practices, references can also be found regarding massage and body composition, a topic that continues to attract scientific interest today.
Looking at my own country, Greece, Hippocrates emphasized the importance of prevention and highlighted the value of balanced nutrition, exercise, and manual techniques as part of maintaining health and physical function. Massage was also commonly used among ancient Greek athletes to support recovery and performance.

Throughout my years of experience, I have observed that regular massage sessions often contribute to better sleep quality, reduced stress, and relief from everyday physical tension. Many healthcare professionals also recommend massage alongside conventional medical care as a complementary wellness practice.
Massage may also support circulation and lymphatic flow, promote relaxation, and create favorable conditions for the body's natural physiological processes. Many people also notice improvements in swelling, skin appearance, and their overall sense of physical well-being.

Recently, I read that good nutrition can improve the overall results of massage.

I completely agree—but I also believe the opposite is true.

When chronic stress and physical discomfort are reduced, emotional eating often becomes easier to manage. Since stress is one of the main drivers of overeating in modern life, supporting both body and mind can make healthier habits much easier to maintain.

For this reason, I believe that combining massage with balanced nutrition and regular physical activity can offer more sustainable long-term results than restrictive approaches that often lead to repeated cycles of deprivation and relapse.

For me, holistic health is not about one technique or one diet. It is about creating balance in body and mind through small, consistent, and meaningful daily choices.
