Did you know that anorexia affects our menstrual cycle like that? It's a startling fact that many people may not be aware of. Anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image, can have severe consequences on various aspects of our health, including our menstrual cycle.
When someone with anorexia restricts their food intake to an extreme level, their body is deprived of essential nutrients needed for normal bodily functions. This severe malnourishment can disrupt the delicate balance of hormones responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle.
Typically, the menstrual cycle is governed by the interplay of hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. These hormones work together to prepare the body for pregnancy by stimulating the growth and shedding of the uterine lining. However, when a person is suffering from anorexia, hormonal imbalances occur, leading to irregular or absent periods.
The lack of proper nutrition affects the hypothalamus, a region of the brain responsible for regulating hormone production. In response to inadequate food intake, the hypothalamus reduces the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), a key hormone that triggers the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and lute

➡️ 5 things YOU need to know about hormones
▶️ The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
▶️The first half of the menstrual cycle is known as the follicular phase, during which FSH stimulates the growth of follicles in the ovaries, and oestrogen levels rise.
▶️Oestrogen causes the uterine lining to thicken, preparing it for a potential pregnancy.
*if fertilised.
▶️As ostrogen levels peak, it triggers a surge in LH, which causes the dominant follicle to release an egg in a process called ovulation.
▶️After ovulation, the empty follicle becomes the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone to prepare the uterus for implantation of a fertilised egg.

💡7 things I bet you didn’t know about the Fallopian Tubes💡
➡️The fallopian tubes, also known as uterine tubes or oviducts, are a pair of tubes that connect the ovaries to the uterus in females.
➡️The tubes are around 10 to 12 cm long, with a diameter of 1 to 4 mm.
➡️The fallopian tubes are responsible for transporting the egg from the o***y to the uterus for fertilisation.
➡️Fertilisation usually takes place in the outer third of the fallopian tube.
➡️The inner lining of the fallopian tubes is covered with cilia, which help move the egg and s***m towards the uterus.
➡️The fallopian tubes have a complex structure, with several parts including the infundibulum, ampulla, and isthmus.
➡️Damage to the fallopian tubes can cause infertility, as it can prevent the egg and s***m from meeting.
