Rt. Hon. Oyet Nathaniel Pierino, Acting Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/A-IO, has addressed the recent suspension of several senior officials, saying those who had been putting obstacles in the way of his plans are now “off duty” following their suspension.

Speaking to Akobo Radio, Oyet reportedly said:

«“We cannot just put our hands in our pockets while the regime is destroying the agreement in our eyes. We have to take action.”»

Oyet also called on the international community to increase pressure on the South Sudan government to engage in meaningful dialogue, saying previous efforts by the C5, African Union and other partners have failed to produce results.

Nigerien Defense and Security Forces have reportedly discovered a significant military arsenal after regaining control of Base 101 in Niamey.

According to Nigerien authorities, the seized equipment includes 34 Toyota pickup trucks, 2 light armored vehicles, 382 AK-47 rifles, 36 RPG-7 launchers, 30 PKM machine guns, 6 heavy machine guns, 4 14.5 mm cannons, 4 Dragunov rifles, an 82 mm mortar, 17 automatic pistols, as well as ammunition and communications equipment.

🔴 BREAKING: Five Dead, Dozens Feared Dead After Migrant Boat From Gambia Reaches Canary Islands

Canary Island, Spain | September 3, 2026

Five bodies have been found aboard a migrant boat rescued off Spain’s Canary Islands, after the vessel reportedly spent 27 days at sea following its departure from The Gambia.

Spanish maritime rescue authorities confirmed that 44 migrants were rescued, including three survivors who were airlifted to hospital in serious condition.

Migrant rights group Walking Borders reported that survivors said as many as 83 people may have died during the journey, including women and a baby. That figure has not been independently verified, and Spanish authorities have confirmed five bodies aboard the boat.

The Atlantic migration route from West Africa to the Canary Islands remains one of the world’s deadliest migration crossings.

🔴 BREAKING: Uganda Names Its Crude Oil “Pearl Sweet” Ahead of Commercial Production

Uganda has officially named its blended crude oil grade “Pearl Sweet”, marking a major milestone as the country prepares to begin commercial oil production by the end of 2026.

President Yoweri Museveni unveiled the name on Wednesday at the Kingfisher oil development area in Kikuube District, western Uganda.

The name “Sweet” refers to the crude’s low sulphur content, while “Pearl” reflects Uganda’s long-standing description as the “Pearl of Africa.”

Uganda has an estimated 1.65 billion barrels of recoverable oil reserves, with peak production expected to reach around 230,000 barrels per day. The crude is expected to be exported through the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) to Tanzania.

Following the naming, Uganda’s oil companies will begin engaging potential refineries and buyers as the country moves closer to joining the global oil-producing nations.

🔴 BREAKING: Ugandan Youth Raid More Than 300 Cattle in South Sudan’s Kajo-Keji

Kajo-Keji County Commissioner Wani Jackson Mule says between 45 and 60 youths from Uganda’s Moyo District crossed into South Sudan and raided about 300 cattle in Abaya village, Kangapo One Payam, on Tuesday.

Following intervention by authorities from both sides of the border, 171 cattle have been recovered, while the remaining livestock are yet to be accounted for.

The commissioner says there was no evidence that crops were destroyed during the incident. However, one or two tukuls belonging to a Ugandan farmer were reportedly burned in retaliation, although the perpetrators have not been identified.

🔴 BREAKING: Ruto Orders Crackdown on Foreigners Operating Small Businesses in Kenya

🔴 BREAKING: SPLM-IO Lawmaker Juol Nhomngek Daniel Warns Against Personality-Based Factions Amid Deepening Internal Crisis

Juba, South Sudan | 3rd September 2026

SPLM-IO lawmaker and lawyer Juol Nhomngek Daniel has called on members of the opposition movement to return to its Constitution, political programme and institutional structures amid a deepening internal crisis over competing loyalties to Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny and Deputy Chairman Oyet Nathaniel Pierino.

In a lengthy statement, Nhomngek argued that the SPLM/A-IO is a political movement, not a personal following, emphasizing that the SPLM-IO is larger than any individual leader, office or faction.

He maintained that the SPLA-IO is the military wing of the movement and should remain an instrument supporting its political objectives, while the political wing should provide political direction, diplomacy, organizational coordination and institutional legitimacy.

Nhomngek also warned against the emergence of competing authorities, personality cults and excessive centralization, arguing that the movement's commitment to federalism, democracy, collective leadership and constitutional government must also be reflected within its own internal structures.

He said defending and demanding the release of Dr. Riek Machar is about protecting the integrity of the SPLM-IO and opposing his humiliation—not because Machar personally constitutes the movement.

The statement comes as tensions and disagreements continue to deepen within the SPLM-IO, with different political and military figures and supporters increasingly taking divergent positions over the movement's leadership and direction.
