One of the most valuable moments at the Aberdeen Women’s Health Picnic was having Penny Gillies, Health Improvement Practitioner at NHS Grampian, bring sexual and reproductive health education directly into our community space.

Penny spoke with clarity, warmth and professionalism about sexual health, blood-borne viruses, testing, prevention, relationships, fertility awareness and how women can access support through NHS services. She helped break down topics that many women often feel unsure, embarrassed or afraid to ask about.

What made her session especially powerful was how practical and open it felt. She answered puzzling and important questions around sexual and reproductive health, helping women understand not just what they need to know, but how to take the next step - whether that means getting tested, asking for help, protecting their health, or accessing trusted services.

Her presence reminded us why credible community health education matters. When women receive clear, trusted information in a safe and welcoming space, confidence grows, stigma reduces, and better health choices become possible.

Thank you, Penny, for bringing your NHS experience, compassion and knowledge to the Aberdeen community. Your contribution helped make the day more informed, more empowering and more impactful.

At the heart of Dr Monika’s session was a message every woman deserves to hear:

You are not difficult. You are not exaggerating. Your symptoms deserve to be understood with care, evidence and compassion.

During the Aberdeen Women’s Health Picnic: Dr Monika brought depth, clarity and humanity to the conversation around nutrition, gut health, lifestyle and women’s wellbeing. Her session moved beyond the usual surface-level advice of “eat less, lose weight and manage stress,” instead reminded us that women need to be heard, believed and supported with credible information.

Through her B.A.D philosophy - Balanced, Authentic and Deserving she encouraged women to support their bodies without perfection, honour their individual health journeys, and reject the idea that pain, heavy bleeding, hormonal changes or digestive symptoms should simply be accepted as “normal.”

Her session combined science with empathy - giving women practical insight while affirming that their lived experiences matter.

Thank you, Dr Monika, for bringing evidence-based knowledge, warmth and truth into our community space.

It was indeed a privilege to have you bloom with us ❤️

In Full Bloom began with heritage, sound and spirit.

We opened the Aberdeen Women’s Health Picnic: In Full Bloom with one of Scotland’s most powerful cultural sounds, the Scottish bagpipes.

For generations, the sound of the pipes has carried deep meaning across Scottish life, marking moments of honour, welcome, unity, remembrance and celebration. More than music, the bagpipes are a voice of heritage - bold, emotional and unmistakably Scottish.

To begin our picnic this way was deeply meaningful. Before the talks, laughter, learning and conversations began, the pipes spoke first, welcoming us into a day of community, purpose and togetherness.

It was a beautiful Scottish opening to a day that brought women, speakers, partners, exhibitors and supporters together in the heart of Aberdeen.

Picture this: sunflowers taller than your patience for waiting rooms, a glass of something bubbly in hand, your pals laughing beside you, and a doctor actually answering the questions you've been Googling at midnight. 🌻💜

That's the Aberdeen Women's Health Picnic. Not a lecture hall. Not a clinic. A proper Scottish picnic in Duthie Park, dedicated entirely to us.

Because here's a truth we don't say enough: knowing your own body shouldn't feel like a favour someone does for you. It should feel like a birthright. This year's theme, "In Full Bloom," is about exactly that. Showing up for yourself, learning without embarrassment, and blooming instead of just getting by.

Expect real medical insight from real experts, honest conversations with zero awkward silences, live music, sunshine (fingers crossed, this is Aberdeen after all ☀️🌧️), and a whole park full of women who get it.

Real talk: most women learn about their own bodies from Google at 2am, not from a doctor who actually has time to explain things properly. 💜

Dr Gostic will be sharing practical, evidence based insights on reproductive health, taking your questions (yes, even the ones you've been too shy to ask), and helping you walk away feeling confident, not confused.

Because your health shouldn't feel like a mystery. It should feel like power. 🌸

Sometimes we dismiss constant tiredness, mood swings, or difficulty managing our weight as "just part of being a woman."

The truth is, these symptoms may be your body's way of telling you that something deeper is going on, including a possible hormonal imbalance.

Understanding your hormones is an important step toward taking control of your health. The more we know, the better we can advocate for ourselves and seek the right support.

This educational post is shared in collaboration with *Uterine Health Alliance* to raise awareness and encourage more open conversations about women's health.
