Allspeeds have successfully deployed, tested and proven the prototype of their innovative pipeline decommissioning tool.
The pipeline decommissioning tool aims to reduce the time and risks associated with removing subsea pipe. Its unique ability to quickly and easily crimp, seal and cut pipe before removal makes decommissioning faster, cleaner and safer.
The prototype was deployed into a submersion tank at Balmoral's impressive subsea test facility in Aberdeen and the tool was operated by the dive team from N-Sea.
This system is currently configured to be operated in shallow water by divers and has a manually operated control manifold. It’s fed from a low pressure topside HPU (supplied by J2 Subsea and has integrated miniBOOSTER Hydraulics A/S intensifiers, ensuring that all hoses to the tool are low pressure and therefore safer.
The testing was recorded and observed topside in the N-Sea mobile dive van via Fathom System's diver mounted and handheld HD cameras.
Allspeeds would like to thank all parties involved in their help in making this prototype testing a real success, further developments to come include scaling the tool up to cope with larger pipe diameters, as well as producing a version for deeper water with no manual operation.

It was all hands on deck to get our FIT (Fast Intervention Tool) off to Balmoral ready for testing next week. This tool has been developed for Pipeline Decommissioning for Chevron USA. It reduces the risks to divers and enables a quicker cutting operation, while avoiding the need for containment domes during pipeline cutting and retrieval.
Fantastic test facilities have been provided by Balmoral and the all-important Divers from N-Sea will be completing the testing, Our Design Engineer Dan Fielder and Technical Director Rory McGarry will be in Aberdeen for the week overseeing the testing along with Chevron

Our Design Engineer will be at Offshore Europe on the 3rd September with a presentation covering the current market trend with decommissioning pipeline and how there are few methods which make the process feasible.
Come along to Room 4 at 3pm where Dan will be introducing the Fast Intervention Tool (FIT) at its current prototype stage, with further information on where it will be progressing into a commercial tool in the future.
Dan gives us a quick insight into the presentation:
"Subsea pipeline decommissioning for either abandonment or retrieval is hazardous for both divers and the marine environment. This presentation reports on the development of a Fast Intervention Tool for pipeline decommissioning for Chevron USA. It reduces the risks to divers and provides a more robust solution, whilst improving the economic feasibility and environmental impact”
We look forward to seeing you there.
