We have created something special - In Irish, “Tá an t-ádh dearg ort” literally means “you have the red luck on you” an expression used to describe great or tremendous luck.

“An t-ádh dearg” is also one of many Irish expressions associated with menstruation and women’s reproductive lives. This connection is what inspired our collection.

As explored by Manchán Magan in “Focail na mBan - Women’s Words” the Irish language holds a rich and often forgotten vocabulary around women’s bodies, menstruation and their reproductive lives. “An t-ádh dearg “is one small part of that fascinating linguistic heritage.

We hear so many stories from women about it wasn’t until they understood the link between the two, they really struggled so much with anxiety, low mood and depression, despite getting support for their mental health. Change is possible and you don’t have to “just put up with being a woman”

Meet Annie Stanfield, student dietitian and member of the Changing Cycles board. 🩷

Annie has long been interested in how the menstrual cycle can affect women's lives, particularly through her involvement in sport.
Her research into the menstrual cycle and sports performance sparked an even deeper interest in the connection between nutrition, hormones and wellbeing.

We can't wait to see the knowledge and perspective Annie brings to Changing Cycles.

What a special day Joanne had at Bluebell Lane today with Children from St Teresa’s Primary School. The children are reading “Under The Hawthorn Tree” as their class novel and we brought many of the themes of it to life today as we explored the trees and plants around Bluebell. The weather was just perfect for a special Autumn day of outdoor learning.
