Yes, as hairdressers we cut, colour and style hair…
But it’s never just about making someone look different.
Sometimes it’s watching them sit a little taller. Seeing their face change when they look in the mirror. Helping them feel confident, comfortable and more like themselves again.
Not every appointment needs to create a whole new person… Sometimes the best result is helping someone recognise themselves again.
That feeling is still one of my favourite parts of being a hairdresser, even after 20+ years. 🫶🏼

Curls sat in your chair… now what? 👀
Wet cut? Dry cut?
What products are you reaching for?
What does the hair actually need?
There isn’t one answer for every head of curls, and that’s kinda the point. The more you understand the hair in front of you, the less scary it becomes.

It’s been 5 MONTHS since we did anything to these curls, so we’re well overdue! We need colour, a treatment, a good cut to bring these curls back to life 🙌🏼
First though… consultation. What are we working with? What does the hair actually need? And what’s the plan?

😂 20+ years behind the chair and Instagram can still have me questioning EVERYTHING.
One reel and suddenly I’m thinking…
Wait… should I be doing that?
Have I been doing this wrong?
Is THAT the new way?! 👀😂
But here’s the thing. Hairdressing evolves. Techniques change. Education SHOULD make us question things and keep learning. But different doesn’t automatically mean wrong. Take what makes you curious. Learn from other people. Try new things. Keep evolving.
But don’t let a 12-second reel convince you that years of knowledge and experience suddenly mean nothing 👏🏼 Get curious instead of critical. Including of yourself. ❤️

Can you REALLY repair split ends?
I’m sorry to break it to you… but once that hair fibre has split, no product can permanently stick it back together. ✂️
Some products can temporarily smooth the hair, improve how it feels and help protect against further damage.
But actually repair a split end?
That bit needs cutting.
Prevention, protection and regular trims are where we win. 🙌🏼

But OMG am I glad I got the chance to sit in the chair instead of standing behind it for once!
For years I’ve had my hair cut with the thought of, “but what if I want to wear it straight?”
Except… I don’t EVER wear it straight anymore. 😂 So this time there was no overthinking it. I sat down and my only request was…
I WANT VOLUME. BIG HAIR PLEASE. 😂🙌🏼
I wanted a haircut designed around how I actually want to wear my hair. Curly. Full. Lots of movement. Lots of shape.

It’s also such a good reminder from a consultation point of view. We can get so caught up in what someone might want to do with their hair that sometimes the simplest question is…
How do you ACTUALLY wear your hair most of the time?
Cut for the person, their texture, their lifestyle and how they want to wear it. ❤️ And apparently I’ve finally taken my own advice 😂✂️
