This is my Lois in Chestnut Sunlight, pre cut, with a darkened root and lowlights added. Pre cut means she’s been taken from a single length to having face framing layers, a long sweeping fringe, and a longer layer at the back that sits at the nape, so you keep all the density where you need it most. More movement, more interest, more like me.

Today I’m using the heated brush (link to buy https://vm.tiktok.com/ZN9AoYK3YsbrC-4IFhd/ ) with retractable prongs (is that what you call them?). Lightweight, drama free, and no chance of tangles. Anyone else remember cutting a curling brush out of their hair in the 80s? Never again.

Here’s how I did it:

1. Start with clean hair and heat protector. Always.
2. Set the temperature low. This brush goes from 150 to 210 degrees and I used 165, which is plenty for a human hair topper. She can’t grow back, so be kind with the heat.
3. Style the back off your head. Take a small section, brush it through first to smooth, then wind the hair around the brush in the direction you want it to fall. I styled away from the face.
4. Hold for around five seconds, retract the bristles/prongs and release. You’re not after a curl here, just bounce and movement through that longer layer.
5. Pop her on to finish the front and sides. This is where you blend your own hair with Betsy so it all moves as one.
6. Hold your topper in place while you style. Anything that tugs could pull on your own hair, and nobody wants that.
7. For the fringe and front pieces, think bend not curl. Just a little kick at the ends and guide the hair where you want it to go.
8. Finish with a tiny tweak to placement. Done.

The wide bristles work just like a wide tooth co , so you smooth and style in one go with no damage. I found it easier than straighteners but if that’s what you have got then they will do a great job too.

Twenty years wearing hair. One tiny habit, that takes two minutes tops, and it’s a major reason nobody knew I wore hair (pre me posting videos all over the place).

It’s not the hairline. Everyone bangs on about the hairline. It’s the parting, the illusion of depth there is what transforms your hair topper. I have used a dark eyeliner here but you really only need to go a little darker to make the difference.
