It’s not that mouthwash is inherently good or bad, context matters. If you have a healthy mouth (don’t need fillings when you visit the dentist, no bleeding gums) and you brush and floss effectively, then mouthwash probably isn’t a necessary step in your routine. If you need fillings every time you see your dentist, and your gums bleed and there’s no convincing you to floss, then an alcohol free fluoride mouthwash might be a good shout…it all depends on YOU! The goal isn’t to wipe out bacteria. It’s to support oral microbiome balance. It’s important to use the right tools, for the right reasons, in the right mouth.
