A question I get ask all the time.. How often should you have a massage?

There really isn’t a right answer.

For some people it’s every few weeks. For others, it’s every few months or simply when they feel they need it.

Massage can be a great way to support your body, training and recovery, but it shouldn’t be something you feel you have to rely on.

Move🚶🏼‍♀️
Get strong 💪🏼
Recover well 💆🏼‍♀️

And use massage to support the things you love doing. 💛

🔥🔥🔥 Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, but the painful area isn’t always the only area worth looking at.

Your foot, Achilles and calf all work together when you walk and run, which is why treatment may involve more than just working on the bottom of your foot.

As always, it’s about looking at the bigger picture and understanding why something might be hurting.

Be careful what you listen to out there!

🔹 Your muscles don’t have knots
🔹 Massage doesn’t flush out toxins
🔹 I’m not strong enough to break up scar tissue
🔹 Your pelvis probably isn’t out of alignment
🔹 Massage can’t fix everything
🔹 Your fascia isn’t all stuck together
🔹 You’re not damaged
🔹 You should move your body

The sciatic nerve gets blamed for a lot.

Pain in your lower back, glute or down the back of your leg?

“It must be sciatica.”

But it’s not quite that simple.

Sciatica describes a collection of symptoms associated with irritation or compression of the nerve roots that form the sciatic nerve. And not every pain that travels into the leg is sciatica.

Pain, tingling, numbness and sometimes weakness can all be part of the picture but understanding why those symptoms are happening is important.

And while an irritated nerve may not appreciate too much load initially, avoiding movement altogether isn’t usually the answer either. Gradual, appropriate movement and loading can be an important part of recovery when the time is right.

As always, it’s not just about where it hurts. It’s about understanding what’s going on.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that an injury needs complete rest.

While there are times when rest is important, our muscles, tendons and other tissues need the right amount of load to adapt and recover. Too much can aggravate an injury, but too little can leave the area weaker and less able to cope.

Recovery isn’t about doing nothing, it’s about gradually rebuilding strength, confidence and capacity so your body can get back to doing what you enjoy.

The goal isn’t just to get out of pain. It’s to become stronger than before.

The summer so far! June & July, I packed a lot in but we’ve still got more to go!

July was also my busiest month to date in the treatment room, so think you for choosing me to treat you all.

Here’s to more sunshine, more wine and the rest of the summer! 💛
