🌊 We had such a lovely time kicking off the Beach Yoga season on Friday!
There certainly is something very special about practising by the sea. The proof is in the pudding.
Everyone arrives needing something different. Some come to slow down, some to lift their energy and others simply to find a little more balance, strength and grace.
Nature has a wonderful way of meeting us exactly where we are.

🌊 Why I Teach Yoga by the Sea 🌊
Many of the deepest teachings I have received in life have come through spending time in nature and it feels very special to be able to pass some of that on through Beach Yoga.
For me, yoga has never been about forcing, striving or battling with the body.
It is about creating the conditions for the mind to settle and for us to come back to ourselves.
The sound of the waves.
The feeling of the stones beneath our feet (a free massage from Mother Nature!).
The fresh clean sea air.
The open space.
The rhythm of the tides.
Working with the elements in this way naturally brings a sense of clarity, calm and connection.
The beach is such a kind space to practise in. It reminds us that we are part of something bigger and invites us to slow down, breathe to simply be.
As we tune into today’s Full Moon and the ever-changing tides, we are reminded that life, too, moves in cycles.
Beach Yoga offers a chance to reconnect with that rhythm.

☀️ Heatwave Wellbeing: Finding Balance in the Heat ☀️
As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to staying well.
In yoga and Ayurveda, we look at the individual. We are all different and our needs will vary depending on our lifestyle, energy levels and what is happening in our lives.
A few gentle reminders during the warmer weather:
💧 Keep hydrated throughout the day. Try to sip water regularly rather than drinking large amounts all at once.
🥒 If you’re feeling particularly hot, try adding fresh mint or cucumber to your water for a naturally cooling effect.
☕ Be mindful of drinks that are highly caffeinated, as these can sometimes increase feelings of heat and dehydration.
🧊 In Ayurveda, iced drinks are avoided, as they can shock the body and affect digestion. Room temperature or cool drinks are kinder to the system.
🌞 Think about your own relationship with the sun. Some sunshine can be wonderfully energising but cover up and seek shade when needed. Listen to your body and find the level of exposure that feels right for you.
🧘♀️ Gentle movement or a short yoga practice in the morning can help you feel grounded and prepared for the day ahead before the heat intensity bringing balance.
😴 You may find your sleep changes slightly during hotter weather. Waking earlier or sleeping a little less occasionally isn’t the end of the world. Be gentle with yourself and focus on the overall quality of your rest.

Over the years I’ve travelled extensively, exploring different approaches to well being and holistic health in places including Mexico, India, italy, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. Along the way, I picked up practices, perspectives, and a deep appreciation for the connection between body, mind and spirit.
More recently, I completed my training in Swedish Massage here in the UK, bringing together my love of movement, well being and disease prevention, alleviating alignments and helping people improve daily healthy living for fun and longevity.
Today, through Olivia Wellness, I offer massage, private yoga, beach yoga, and personalised wellbeing support designed to help busy people reset, restore and find focus as well as relief.

If you’re local to Sandgate, you may already know me as the Beach Yoga lady, or from my days at Café Pierre.
For years I’ve been passionate about energy in movement and connecting people to their breath and bodies to enjoy well being. Whether that’s through yoga by the sea, small group and one to one yoga sessions, a relaxing bespoke massage, or simply creating space to breathe and reset.
