Seeds …

The home fragrance industry … it has been a roller coaster of ups and downs in the last eighteen years.
I liken it to gardening. You cast your seeds on (or in) the soil. Some gently embed and germinate. Some are pecked by birds and some are blown away in the wind. Some are planted and don’t sprout or bud. Some don’t germinate in a season but rather stay dormant and when time has worked its magic they reveal themselves.
Awards are the flower on the plant that came from the seed. And I won one !!

KARTUSHYA 100ml EDP Parfum

(The singularly most requested item in the Jonathan Ward product portfolio).

A soldier’s love song (retold in scent).

The forest air caught in wool. Birch smoke drifting through twilight. To***co, cognac and folded letters carried close to the heart. Twists of nature’s ‘green lace’ dill seed

Kartushya is a fragrance of distance and devotion; a portrait of warmth carried through cold places. Pine, rosemary and dill seed lead into a rich accord of cognac, organic black pepper and rose to***co before settling into amber, birchwood and patchouli.

A portrait of tender bravado cast passionately across the chant of a song.

“This can’t be Love”

Last year Coumakatcha had become a little bit of a runaway hit. And “just like that” it has been overtaken by “This can’t be Love”. Life imitating art… who knows, but it turned out to be the perfect ending….
-
A seductive trail of misfired gunshots, poetically lost in a slowing canter.

Combat rendered obsolete.

When the dust cleared and the hooves softened to distant thuds, there was space to wonder…

sometimes, when you hear hooves, perhaps you should think zebras.

Everything was not what it seemed.

What happens when your own sense betrays you?

When the tiny pulses, pushing through 100,000km of inner mapping,

carry the red hush of life get it wrong?

They fired. Or misfired.

All that remains is a longing.

This can’t be love.
-
This scent composition unfolds like a system under quiet duress—signals sent with conviction, received in distortion. Iris and violet petals meld in osmosis. An Orris Affair that promises clarity unexpectedly. Violet Leaf Absolute cuts through in flashes—green and insistent—the intensity of a longing thought that arrived too quickly and settled incorrectly. Beneath, Cashmeran and Ambercore a hum of his warm persuasion, a body convinced before the mind could intervene, little Pink Pepper sparks—sharp, electric, impossible to ignore—mistaking urgency for truth. A shadow of Cade Oil lingers at the edges, the faint burn of something already decided, and deep within, Civet Absolute breathes—intimate, undeniable—proving that the signal was never without provocation… only ever misread.

Harmonious chaotic olfactory beauty…

Proud…

For the first time in my creative career, I have been granted the time and the mental freedom to create. A languid process of allowing a ‘natural calling’ to unfold. And the results have culminated in a body of work that has been tested to my genuinely interested clients. When I say tested, I mean that I released the scents unsmelled. They attracted who they attracted. I’m very grateful to have a client base that doesn’t sit on the sidelines and simply watch (mostly).
The five best selling scents deserved to be housed in a body of work showcased the year. Before we enter the next phase this proud artist can metaphorically tip his creatively feathered cap and look ahead.
