Why might products you’ve happily used for years suddenly not do the job?

The thing that may have changed is your skin.

As we get older, and particularly around perimenopause and menopause, changes in hormones can affect hydration, collagen and the way skin behaves.

That doesn’t mean your trusted skincare is “bad”. It may simply mean your skin needs something different now.

Sometimes a few thoughtful changes to your routine are enough. And sometimes it’s worth looking at whether an in-clinic treatment could help with the things skincare alone can’t fully address.

No! Having one treatment doesn’t sign you up to a lifetime of appointments.

With most treatments, maintenance is needed if you want to keep enjoying the results. But that’s your choice.

You can try something, see how you feel about the result and decide whether it was worthwhile for you.

You might choose to have it again when the effects begin to fade, leave it longer between treatments, or decide once was enough.

There’s no rule that says once you start, you have to keep going.

And I’m certainly not going to hand you a growing list of things to treat, that’s definitely not my style!

For me, treatment should always be something you choose because you still want it, not something you feel you have to keep doing because you started.

Lip treatment offers so much more than bigger lips.

You might just have noticed that your lips don’t look quite as defined as they used to. The top lip can start to look a little thinner, the border can soften, and lipstick that once stayed exactly where you put it may begin to travel into the little lines around the mouth.

Sometimes it’s less about wanting to change your lips and more about wanting them to look a little more like they did before.

That’s a very different brief from simply adding volume.

When I treat lips, I’m looking at their shape, definition and proportion, and at what will still suit your face as a whole.

So if “bigger lips” is the thing that has always put you off, it doesn’t have to be the goal at all.

Especially when the peel in question is designed to be gentle.

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a superficial peel that exfoliates and refreshes the skin without the kind of dramatic downtime people often imagine when they hear the words *chemical peel*.

It can be a lovely option if your skin is looking dull or uneven, if you’re prone to breakouts, or if you’re left with marks from previous blemishes. It can also help improve the appearance of fine lines and generally give the skin a fresher, brighter look.

And because it’s a lighter peel, it’s the sort of treatment that can fit quite comfortably into an ordinary day.

We’re also heading towards peel season, when there’s naturally a little less sun around and treatments like this tend to come back onto people’s radar.

Here’s why sometimes the answer really isn’t another serum…

A good home skincare routine is absolutely worth having. The right products can make a real difference to how your skin looks and feels.

But skincare and clinic treatments don’t do the same job.

If you’ve been looking after your skin consistently and you’re still bothered by things like texture, unevenness or a particular concern that just isn’t shifting, adding more and more products may not be the most useful next step.

If filler is what’s putting you off treatment, keep reading…

If you’re fairly new to aesthetics, it’s very easy to hear the word “injectable” and picture added volume, bigger lips or a result that changes the way you look.

But some injectable treatments have a completely different job.

Polynucleotides, for example, are used to support skin quality. Linerase works by stimulating your own collagen rather than adding volume.

So if the thing putting you off is the idea of making something bigger or changing the shape of your face, it may simply be that you haven’t heard about some of the other options available.
