✨ It was meat stock ✨

And once you understand why, it changes how you see starting solids completely.

Because this stage isn’t just about “trying foods”…

It’s about building the gut your baby will rely on for years to come.

After months of exclusive milk feeding, your baby’s digestive system is still developing, delicate, permeable, and learning how to respond to the world around it.

And this is where meat stock is so powerful.

It’s not just “food” …it’s foundational nourishment.

Rich in:
– Gelatin & collagen > helps seal and strengthen the gut lining
– Amino acids (like glycine & proline) > support digestion, detoxification, and tissue repair
– Bioavailable minerals > calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, in forms your baby can actually absorb
– Natural electrolytes > gentle hydration and cellular support

This is exactly what an immature gut needs.

Especially if your little one is showing signs of eczema.

Because eczema isn’t just a skin condition.

It’s often a reflection of what’s happening inside the gut, where the immune system is still learning what is safe… and what isn’t.

And those early foods?

They help shape that response.

While many first foods can be harder to break down or more inflammatory for a sensitive gut…

Meat stock is:
– warm
– easy to digest
– deeply soothing

It works with your baby’s biology, not against it.

This is the difference between simply starting solids…

…and starting in a way that builds strong, resilient foundations for life.

No overwhelm.
No conflicting advice.
Just simple, powerful first steps.

If you’re preparing to start solids, or you’ve already started and want to gently reset your approach, I’ve put the first five foods I used and why into a simple, grounded guide for you.

Most parents are taught how to start solids.

Very few are taught which foods matter most when those first bites arrive.

When I introduced solids to Isabelle, I prioritised five foods first.

They weren’t chosen because they were popular.

They were chosen because of what they contribute to building strong foundations.

This food changed everything for both my babies.
And I would choose it as a first food again and again…

Meat stock. 🤎

Not because it’s trendy.

Not because it’s complicated.

Because it became one of the simplest ways to nourish both of my babies.

After Lucas’ eczema journey, I realised that thriving health isn’t usually built through one big change.

It’s built through small daily choices that compound over time.

Nourishing foods.

Simple rhythms.

Strong foundations.

That’s exactly why meat stock became one of the very first foods I introduced with Isabelle.

Because before first foods come foundations.

And strong roots create stronger starts. 🌿

Many parents treat eczema on the skin…

but eczema often starts in the gut.

When my son Lucas developed severe eczema, I began learning about how gut health can influence skin inflammation. One of the first healing foods I introduced was homemade meat stock, rich in nutrients that support the gut lining.

It’s also one of the first foods I introduced when starting solids with my baby, helping build strong foundations for little ones.

If you’re navigating eczema and preparing to start solids, I’ve created some free resources to help 🤎

Most parents spend hours researching how to start solids.

Very few are taught which foods matter most when those first bites arrive.

When I introduced solids to Isabelle, I didn’t start with fruit purée, rice cereal or baby porridge.

I wanted her first foods to be intentional, nutrient-dense and supportive of the gut-first foundations I was trying to build.

That’s why meat stock was one of the very first foods I introduced.

And it wasn’t the only one.

I created my free First Five Foods Guide to show you five foods I prioritised first and why they mattered so much to us.

If you’re pregnant, postpartum or preparing to start solids soon, comment FIRST FIVE and I’ll send it over 🤎

Many mothers arrive at starting solids carrying questions from their baby’s earliest days.

Perhaps your baby was born by C-section.

Perhaps they received antibiotics at birth.

Perhaps you’ve already experienced eczema, reflux, digestive discomfort or simply that feeling of wondering whether there’s more you could be doing.

The good news?

Starting solids isn’t about perfection.

It’s about understanding the foundations that help you move forward with confidence.

That’s why I created Golden Starts Foundations™.

A self-paced programme designed to help you understand the principles behind gut-first nourishment, real food and confident decision-making before your baby’s first bite.

Because confidence comes from understanding the why.

If I was newly postpartum again, this is where I’d start.

Not with pressure.

Not with expectations.

Not with trying to get back to who I was before.

I would start with nourishment.

The seasons of pregnancy, postpartum and preparing to start solids ask so much of us as mothers.

Physically.

Emotionally.

Mentally.

And yet so many of us are taught to focus on everyone else’s needs before our own.

For me, one of the simplest ways to create a feeling of nourishment, steadiness and support was a pot of meat stock simmering gently in the kitchen.

Whether it’s as warming drink or a healing base for soups and sauces…

Not because it was perfect.

Not because I did everything right.

But because it became a simple rhythm that carried us through pregnancy, postpartum, Lucas’s eczema journey and later into Isabelle’s first foods.

This is exactly why I created Meat Stock Made Simple™.

For the pregnant mamma.

For the postpartum mamma.

For the mamma who wants to begin building nourishing foundations before the first spoon ever arrives.

Because nourishment isn’t something we earn.

It’s something we deserve.

If I was pregnant again tomorrow, this is where I’d start.

Not with baby gadgets.

Not with endless hours of research.

Not with complicated meal plans.

I’d start by putting a stock pot on the stove.

Because this one simple habit has supported our family through Lucas’s eczema journey, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, Isabelle’s first foods and beyond.

It became more than a recipe.

It became a rhythm.

A simple act of nourishment that gently shaped the way we feed ourselves and our children.

That’s why I created Meat Stock Made Simple™.

For the mamma who wants somewhere simple to begin.

For the mamma who knows nourishment starts long before the first spoon.
