Six years of thinking about blepharoplasty… and 7 days later, she wished she’d done it sooner. ✨

This lovely patient had been putting surgery off until she found someone she truly trusted.

For me, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is not just about removing excess skin. It’s about creating a natural, refreshed result while making the whole experience feel calm, safe and considered.

And possibly my favourite patient quote ever:

“Those teeny tiny stitches look like Tinkerbell did them.” 🧚‍♀️✨

At day 7, she described minimal bruising, no pain in the days afterwards and was already delighted with her recovery.

Upper Lid Blepharoplasty Journey

This lovely patient was kind enough to share her journey from before surgery, straight after, five hours later and the following morning.

She had been struggling with increasingly heavy upper lids, tired-looking eyes and the feeling that she was constantly lifting or moving the skin away from her eyes.

What I love most about her result so far is that she still looks completely like herself — just more open around the eyes.

These images are from the very early recovery period, so swelling, bruising and asymmetry are completely normal at this stage. The final result will continue to settle and refine over the coming weeks and months.

She also described the procedure as pain-free during surgery which is great as she was awake and it was carried out with local anaesthetic alone! She experienced some mild stinging afterwards, which I know will be reassuring for anyone feeling nervous about having it done.

Upper lid blepharoplasty is not about changing someone’s face.

It is about restoring lightness around the eyes while preserving the person underneath. 🤍

I’m really excited to be speaking at ESCRS this September with InMode UK & Ireland 🤍

Dry eye is such a huge part of my clinical work, and one of the things I feel most strongly about is that not all IPL is the same.

At 11:30 and 14:00 on Saturday 12 September, I’ll be talking about:

“Is your IPL actually treating Dry Eye? Why standard IPL protocols may be leaving patients disappointed.”

I’ll be sharing how I approach dry eye and MGD in my own practice, why I believe we need to look beyond standard IPL protocols, and how I use Envision, Lumecca-I and Forma-I as part of a much more individualised approach to treating dry eye and ocular surface disease.

There will also be live Envision treatment demonstrations at 12:30 and 15:30, so you can actually see the treatment in practice rather than just hear me talk about it.

It still feels pretty special to be able to take something I work with every single day in clinic and share it on an international ophthalmology stage. 🥹✨

🌒 Solar eclipse tomorrow 👁️

Tomorrow’s eclipse will be incredible to see, but please don’t risk your eyesight for a quick look.

As an eye surgeon, my advice is simple:

🕶️ Only look directly at the eclipse through proper ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses. Normal sunglasses are NOT enough.

📱🔭 Don’t look at the Sun through your phone, camera, binoculars or telescope without the correct solar filter.

👧 Please supervise children carefully — in the UK the eclipse is partial, so there is no point when it’s safe to look directly at the Sun without protection.

Why does it matter? Direct sunlight can cause solar retinopathy — damage to the macula, the part of your retina responsible for detailed central vision.

The scary thing is it doesn’t hurt while the damage is happening, and symptoms may only appear later — blurred vision, a central dark spot, distortion or changes in colour vision.

In some cases, the damage can be permanent.

Enjoy it tomorrow 🌒✨ — just protect those eyes.
