A throwback. To Tim and I’s marriage Blessing day. 11/12/22

This was a day I’d dreamt of.

And the most loveliest part…having a much less stressful getting ready morning. I got to blowdry my mums hair. My mother in laws hair. I even blowdried my boys and the husbands hair too! 😆

And then it snowed that day.❄️

Let’s give you some top tips👇🏻
🌟 use lukewarm water when washing
🌟give your hair 2 shampoos. The first one cleanses the hair and the second cleanses your scalp which will promote healthy growth.
🌟 condition the lengths and ends first and use what’s left to massage into your scalp. A moisturised scalp is a healthy one.
🌟never rub at your ends. Only focus on your scalp.
🌟use a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt once finished washing.
🌟don’t rub it dry, instead either leave in the towel/t-shirt for an hour or gently squeeze.
🌟 ALWAYS use one of my recommended all in one creams- this not only protects from heat and UV but also adds condition, split end prevention, detangling, smoothing, anti humidity etc.
🌟use a detangling comb or brush that’s designed for wet hair such as and start from the bottom and gently work your way up.
🌟rough dry your hair using med heat until at least 95% dry.
🌟ensure your styling brush is clean every time.
🌟use a nozzle on your dryer to direct the heat and always leave an airy gap between hair and dryer.
🌟 minimise the amount of straightening or tonging you do.
🌟book in once every 6-8 weeks for a maintenance trim. This is an absolute must as between weeks 9-12 your hair usually becomes tired and weak which will cause it to split.

How does hair breakage happen?

Well… for one- us hairdressers should always ensure we are applying colour in a way that is careful and considerate to the hair’s ability. Something I pride myself on.

However,

It is very important to remember that it’s not just down to the hairdresser to work to keep hair healthy.

It’s also down to the client. EVERYTHING they do at home will have an impact.
Straightening every day.
Being rough everyday.
Tying the hair up in tight buns and ripping the hair tie out.
Sleeping with hair up.
Dirty brushes.
Broken and melted brushes.
Hair tools being too old.
Not using the correct products.
Failing to use heat protection (at any stage!)
Not having a regular hair care routine.

BUT! What is our responsibility as hairstylists is ensuring our clients are educated on things like this.
Not just once when they come for the first time.
EVERY time.
It’s so important to always talk about it.

Ask them about their current routine.
Talk to them about the importance of following a proper and consistent care plan.
Explain why.
Find ways to get around any of their problems with the current routine. Whether that’s budget; direct them to correct products within a budget, or if they’re struggling with time.

Educate always.

Hypermobility means our bodies can’t feel tension when our muscles and ligaments are being stretched. Our joints simply aren’t supported sufficiently.

As a hairdresser, standing with my shoulders, ankles, knees and hips locked in the same position for hours on end each day takes its toll.

I do daily stretching and gentle exercises to increase strength in my joints and try to unlock the tight nerves in my body.

Our bodies rapidly lose collagen after we reach 40, and folks with hypermobility have natural defects in the collagen their body supplies.

If you aren’t doing so already, you need to be adding collagen into your daily routine - especially if you suffer with hypermobility.
