As animal lovers and pet parents we tend to focus on their welfare before our own, but please do make sure you are looking after yourselves. “You can’t pour from an empty cup” is a saying I completely ignore when said to me but they do have a point!! Rest, rehydrate and repeat 💚

Seeing muscle atrophy or muscle hypertrophy (under developed muscle) is just part of the picture.

It could be the main problem, a symptom of another problem, compensation, asymmetry in horse or rider…so many things.

And there are so many answers; bodywork, remedial foot trimming, rehabilitation exercises, dental work, saddle fit…again so many things!

That’s why sharing as much information about your training, your horses living environment, past medical history, accidents…all of this and much more helps to put the puzzle together. And there will probably always be missing pieces!

Regular maintenance massages can spot these minor issues early and get to work correcting them before they become major, painful and expensive issues.

As an equine sports massage therapist this is one of the most frustrating things I hear.

I do completely understand why that is a common belief, we don’t go to a bodyworker unless we are experiencing pain or have an injury.

However, our horses are extremely tolerant and often don’t start to show signs of pain for 6-8 weeks, by which time compensation patterns are also starting to form. Whether we are riding to compete, for sport or a weekend hack we are asking our horses to use their bodies in ways that are unnatural.

Having regular massage treatments can highlight these problems early allowing us to address them quickly, avoiding extensive vet bills, investigations and possibly long rehabilitation periods.

I’ve extensively studied pain in horses and the behaviour patterns it can manifest and by staying in regular contact with you we can ensure that your horse stays healthy, happy and comfortable for as long as possible 💚

I currently have slots available in the CT, TN and ME areas. If your postcode fits there are no additional travel fees. Appointments are made to meet you and your horses needs, not just on area days and I’m happy to be able to offer weekday and weekends. Comment “MASSAGE” to book or send a message. Cath 💚

Lily’s Mum had tried everything to help her through some behaviour problems; sessions with trainers, supplements and creating a safe home environment. However, massage seemed to be the key to gradually releasing stored tension and trauma in her muscles. Watching the connection between Lily and Penny has been so special. Seeing videos of their adventures on Facebook and receiving photos of her grazing at home always makes my heart full 💞
